LANGILLE, George Theakston - 71. It is with heartfelt sadness the family announces the sudden and unexpected passing of our husband, father, and grandfather, at home, December 18, 2007. He was born in West Branch, November 23, 1936, the youngest son of the late Victor and Christine (Murray) Langille. George is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth (Hewitt); daughters, Lorraine (A.J. Jones), Pictou; Marilyn (John Bigney), West Branch; Beverly (John Butcher), Brule Point, and Michelle (Paul Wells), Eastern Passage; grandchildren, Tpr. Ryan, CFB Petawawa; Travis and Carson Bigney; Nicholas "Little George" and Colbie Butcher; Spencer, Cailyn, and Joshua Wells; and brother, Murray (Winnie), Durham. George's passion for his work was known by all, and those who knew him best referred to him as "Smiley George". That smile will be greatly missed. George operated his own trucking and dozer business for many years. He was also a snowplow operator for the Department of Transportation, a sawyer for Robert Watt, and also sawed at the Sutherland Steam Mill. He enjoyed many trips to the United States with Christmas trees. He was also a 27 year member of the River John Fire Department. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Jessie Cornell; father-in-law, James Hewitt in 1974, and "the best mother-in-law, Margaret Hewitt in 2006. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the paramedic team, River John Fire Department First Responders, and staff at the Emergency Department, Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow for the compassion and respect that was shown to our family. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, where visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday. The funeral will take place 2 p.m. Saturday, in West Branch United Church, Rev. Dr. Ken MacLeod and Rev. Ches. Boutilier officiating. Interment will follow in West Branch Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the River John Fire Department.
