LANGILLE, Arthur K. - Passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 81 on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Bertha (Brown); daughter, Rebecca "Becky" (Bill) Flemming; son, Jeff (Shelley) Langille, all of Barss Corner; granddaughters, of whom he was very proud, Jennifer Rafuse, Rachel Langille, Jessica Langille; stepgrandchildren, Joanne, Jeff and Justin Flemming; step great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Austin. He was predeceased by his parents, Lincoln and Birdie (Kaulback) Langille. He attended school in Barss Corner and Bridgewater and later graduated from the New England Institute of Embalming and Funeral Directing in 1949. With his father, he operated Langille's Ambulance Service and Funeral Home in Barss Corner until the mid 1970s. With his father, and then his son, Jeff, he operated Langille's Carpenter Shop and still "puttered" there up to the time of his illness. Music was an important part of his life and he played the clarinet with the former New Germany Band, as well as the guitar, piano and organ. A kind, gentle, humble soul who did not waive from his principles, he had a deep faith in God and was a member of Barss Corner United Baptist Church where he served as organist for 40 years. He also served as organist for the New Germany and Area Men's Choir from its inception in 1995 and enjoyed traveling to other communities to perform with them. He was very active in the community and served on various committees with the Barss Corner Community Hall, Barss Corner Recreation Hall and the church and community cemeteries. He was a member of the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Producers Association. He enjoyed time spent in the woods, whether cutting firewood, logs, or in his Christmas tree lot, or just going for a walk. He, with his wife, received a number of awards for their long years of volunteering to their community. The armchair philosopher, crossword lover and regular walker and reader, enjoyed talking with people and had a keen interest in many things, learning throughout his life. To respect his wishes, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. A public graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Barss Corner Community Cemetery, Barss Corner, Rev. Jennifer Joudrey officiating, assisted by Rev. Joan Conrad. A reception to celebrate his life and to share memories will be held in Barss Corner Community Hall following the service. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Barss Corner Community Hall or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany, where on-line condolences may be made by visiting: www.sweenysfuneralhome.com
