BOWMAN, Ernest Wallace "Wally" - 70, Halifax, passed away peacefully at home,
Wednesday, February 26, 2003,
surrounded by his loving family.
Wally was born in Halifax and was a son of the late John Allister Bowman Sr.,
and his loving mother, Iva Maude (Langille) Bowman.
Wally was completely devoted to his family and took great pleasure in watching his children and grandchildren grow.
The entire family gathered together each week for "Friday night dinner", which included food, music, and family fun.
He loved all types of music and enjoyed the active life that included walking, skating and "elderobics".
Wally spent his working life with Maritime Tel and Tel, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
He spent many hours volunteering his time for Pioneer projects,
including the All About Me Grade 1 Program, Turn Down the Volume, and many others.
He was an active member of Bethany United Church and served for many years as an elder.
Wally was a member of the Armdale Yacht Club.
He was an avid sailor and the capable skipper of his pride and joy, the Pogo II.
He loved nothing better than spending a day out on the water with family, friends and a strong breeze.
Wally is survived by his wife and best friend, Heather (Jakeman), Halifax.
Heather and Wally were high school sweethearts and were married for 48 wonderful years.
He will be sadly missed by his loving children, Cynthia (David) Cross, Lower Sackville;
Laura (Mark) King, Halifax; Beth (Andrew) O'Brien, Halifax; Abbie (Frank) Archibald, Timberlea.
He is survived by his adoring grandchildren, Kate (and husband Dan Page), Ken and Leah Cross, Samuel and Hannah King,
Sean O'Brien, Jordan, Jacob and Jennifer Archibald.
He will be greatly missed by his brother, Allister;
aunt, Ruth (Jim) Singer, and uncle, Ernest Bowman, Colorado.
He will also be missed by in-laws, Janet and Bill Jones, Eileen and Walter Jakeman; many nieces and nephews.
Wally lived an exemplary life and will always be an inspiration to his family and countless friends.
Visitation will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Bethany United Church, 7171 Clinton Ave., Halifax.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Program of QEII Health Sciences Centre,
Bethany United Church or a charity of choice.
