MURPHY, Philip - 65, Dartmouth, died Wednesday, October 21, 1998,
in his home surrounded by his family.
Phil was a "valiant fighter," having battled cancer for over four years.
Born in Wallace, he was the only child of the late Clarence and Myrtle (Langille) Murphy.
He began his career with Island Telephone Co.,
transferring to Maritime Tel & Tel
where he worked until his retirement as an
engineering supervisor after 39 years of service.
Phil was an elder of the Iona Presbyterian Church,
serving faithfully in almost every facet of church life.
He volunteered with the local food bank until his illness prevented him from continuing.
He was a gifted craftsman, working in wood, paints and model ship building.
Some of his happiest moments were spent in his workshop creating beautiful works of
art.
Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Jane (Morrison);
son, Rod and daughter-in-law Margo Storey, Halifax;
daughter, Joanne and son-in-law Roger Stoyles, Gander, Nfld.;
"his three boys, " beloved grandsons, Callahan, Ryland and Bradley.
He took such great delight in being their granddad.
He is also survived by his loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his oldest child, Catherine.
Visitation will be 6:30-9 p.m. today in Atlantic Funeral Home,
771 Main St., Dartmouth.
Funeral will be held 4 p.m. Friday, October 23, in Iona Presbyterian Church,
90 Lucien Dr., Rev. Cynthia Chenard officiating.
Reception to follow in the church hall.
Committal service will be held Saturday, October 24 in People's Cemetery, Summerside.
The family has requested donations to palliative care, the VG Site, QEII;
Iona Presbyterian Church; Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
