Passed away at QEII Health Sciences Centre, Veterans' Memorial Building on May 2,1997.
Born in Sydney, Cape Breton Co., June 8, 1918,
eldest son of the late Harding and Florence (Crosby) Langille.
Survived by his wife, Margaret Blair;
sister, Ruth Smith,
daughters, Andrea Brown, Kitchener, Ont.,
Paula Flynn, Baddeck, Patricia Stephenson, Dartmouth;
foster daughter, Aileen Rudderham, Edwardsville,
son Walter Langille, Toronto, Ont;
five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Judith Williams;
brothers, Lyman, Benjamin and Keith.
He served as a flight lieutenant in the RCAF during the Second World War;
he was shot down over Holland and incarcerated as a prisoner of war in Poland for two years.
On his return to Nova Scotia, he operated Bras d'Or Hotel in Baddeck or several years.
He served as supervisory post master for Victoria County for many years until his retirement in 1981.
During his years in Baddeck,
he served as president of the board for the Village Commission and
was instrumental in the development of the sewage disposal treatment plant for the village.
He was a past member of Baddeck Volunteer Fire Department, Lions Club, Yacht Club,
an honourary member of Royal Canadian Legion and of the Canadian Sea Cadets in Baddeck.
He was past board member of the Gaelic College.
He was an active member of Greenwood United Church,
serving as superintendant of Sunday school, and was a member of the choir.
He was a photographer who took many photos for the residents of Victoria County.
He was the Cape Breton Post's reporter and photographer for this area.
He also produced many of the first post cards of Cape Breton.
He was president of veteran's council at the Veteran's Memorial Building.
Visitation will take place at 5527 Carriageway Cres., Halifax, on Sunday, May 4 from 2-5 pm.
A memorial service will be held at Greenwood United Church, Baddeck,
Wednesday, May 7 at 2p.m.
A service will be held at Veterans' Memorial Building on Monday, May 26.
Family flowers only.
Donations may be made to charity of choice.
