ARMSTRONG, H. E. "Ellsworth" - 84, Kingston, died February 21,
1999, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, after a courageous
battle. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Howard and Ruby (Griffin)
Armstrong. He was founder of H. E. Armstrong Mechanical Ltd. in 1958
and active in his business until his illness. He served on the Greenwood
Village commission 1962-1975. He was fire commissioner for Kingston and
District Fire Department 1968-1996; former trustee of Kings County School
Board; former member of Markland Masonic Lodge; Kingston United Baptist
Church Choir and the Male Choir. He enjoyed spending time with family,
friends, gardening, travelling, music and minor hockey. He is survived by
his wife, the former Clara Langille; daughters, Vera, Halifax, and Johanne
and son-in-law Harvey Solomon, Middleton; sons, Watson and daughter-in-law
Martha, Warren and daughter-in-law Sue, both of Kingston; grandchildren,
Sheva, Gabriel, Rachel, Aleyah Solomon; Patrick, Allison, and Claire
Armstrong; Teresa, Sara and Alec Armstrong. He was predeceased by
sisters, Vera Whitman and Marion Freeman; infant brother, Lewis. Visiting
will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home,
Middleton. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Kingston United
Baptist Church, Rev. Eric MacKinnon, Rev. George Neily and Rev. John Beers
officiating. Interment in North Kingston Cemetery. Family flowers
only. Donations may be made to Kingston District Volunteer Fire
Department.
