Lloyd Alton Heisler

HEISLER, Lloyd Alton, 91, formerly of Indian Point, Lunenburg Co.,
died December 3, 1997, in
Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.
Born in Rous Island, off of Indian Point,
he was a son of the late William Henry and Mary Helen (Langille) Heisler.
He was a farmer and an inshore and dory fisherman.
He was a crew member of the schooner Bluenose and had raced and fished with her between 1928-1938. during the 1920s, he started rowing in the Lunenburg double-dory races.
In 1952, he and his partner, the late Russell Langille, Oakland,
rowed in the first International Dory Race,
held between teams from Lunenburg and Gloucester, Mass., never losing a race.
In October of 1982,
they were inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jennie Shay;
daughter, Frances and husband William Redmond, Virginia Beach;
son, Wilfred (Sonny), Indian Point, Garnet and wife Diane, Clearland
two grandsons, four grand daughters, two step-granddaughters, two great-grandsons; six great-
granddaughters, four step-great grandchldren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Hope E. Thompson,
sister, Ethel Wentzell, Luella Eisnor, Carrie Jourdrey, Helen Joudrey, Bessie Tanner,
Olive Heisler,
two in infancy,
brothers, Leslie, William Jr., Henry B., Pearlie,
a grandson, a greatgrandson.
Visitation will be in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay, today from 2-4, 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay,
Rev. George
Wawin officiating.
Burial in St. Martin's Cemetery, Martins River.
Memorial donations may be made to Canadian National Institute for the Blind or Heart
and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
