LANGILLE, Keith - 85, 426 Pleasant St., New Glasgow,
died Friday, December 18, 1998, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow,
he was a son of the late George and Elizabeth (Gratto) Langille.
He was a lifelong resident of New Glasgow and
at the age of 12 he began his working career
at Bell's Pharmacy and MacGregor Bedding.
He then travelled to Springhill to work in the Mines and
returned a short time later to work at MacGregor Bedding.
During the war he was employed at the Pictou Shipyard and
following the war he worked at Maritime Steel and
shortly afterwards in 1953 he became a partner in Stella Bedding, Stellarton.
He later started his own business The Mattress Shop at 258 Trenton Rd.,
which he continued to own and operate for 30 years until his retirement.
He was the last known mattress maker to hand finish mattresses.
He was an avid boxing and hockey fan and
was involved in various gyms for training boxers over the years,
the last being the Square-Circle Gym of Trenton.
He was also an avid fisherman in his retirement years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow and
Had served for a time on the board of managers.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Rita Clyburne;
sons, Kenneth (Gale), Keith (Ellen), Gary (Marie), all of New Glasgow;
George (Sharon), Saint John, N.B.;
daughter, Marjorie Langille Nicholson (Fraser), Truro;
13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by sisters, Jessie Stewart, Margaret Griffin;
brothers, Edward, Basil, Victor, Carmen and Clyde in infancy.
His remains are resting at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow,
with visitation today from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow,
Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.
Burial will be in the Lorne Street Cemetery.
