She was born in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, Feb. 22, 1910,
daughter of the late Anthony and Janet (Hirtle) Langille.
She attended local schools and graduated from Mahone Bay High School.
She came to the United States and settled in Salem, Mass., where she attended Salem Commercial School.
After graduation, she worked in the school office for several years and later was employed with her husband in the family printing business, the Newcomb & Gauss Company, in Salem.
Mrs. Gauss was a member of the Lafayette Street United Methodist church, the Women's Republican Club and was Past Worthy Matron and 56-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, all in Salem.
In 1982, Mrs. Gauss moved to Great Falls, Va. and lived there until she moved to Arlington five years ago.
She leaves a son, RADM John A .Gauss, U.S. Navy, and his wife, Charlotte, of Arlington, with whom she resided;
one daughter, Janet S. Rouse of Shelby, Neb.;
two grandchildren, Robin Ann Rouse of Salem, Mass.
and Robert S. Rouse of Lynn, Mass.;
and a great-grandchild, Nathan, of Salem.
She was the sister of the late Pearl E. Langille.

GAUSS -- In Arlington, Va., Nov. 8, Audrey L. (Langille) Gauss, 89, wife of
the late John W. Gauss Jr.
Survived by one son,
RADM John A .Gauss, U.S. Navy, and his wife, Charlotte, of Arlington;
one daughter, Janet S. Rouse of Shelby, Neb.;
two grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
Sister of the late Pearl E. Langille.
Her funeral service will be held Friday, at 11 a.m., in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem,. Order of Eastern Star Service, Thursday, at 7 p.m. (11/10,11)
