LIGHTFOOT, Melbourne George - 82, 196 Belcher St., Kentville,
passed away suddenly in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, Wednesday, June 10, 1998.
Born in Centreville, Kings Co.,
he was a son of the late Chester and Annie (Caldwell) Lightfoot.
His childhood was spent in Delhaven and he later moved to Pereaux, where he resided for over 40 years.
He had lived in Kentville for the past 10 years.
He was a cooper by trade and later owned and operated a grocery business in Canning for 30 years with his brother, Wallace. He was well known for selling groceries from his truck, traveling to the rural areas of Eastern Kings County.
In his retirement years, he was an avid gardener and woodworking enthusiast and took great pleasure in visiting his many friends and family.
He will be remembered fondly by many children who called him Papa.
Mourning his loss are his wife, Helen (Langille)Stets;
daughter, Ethel and husband Gary Ells, Kentville;
son, Laurie and wife Rebecca, Canning;
stepson, Michael Stets and wife Janet, Montreal;
sisters, Frances Hawkins, Gladys Lightfoot, Elizabeth Coleman, Toronto;
Jean Langille, River John.
He will be lovingly remembered by grandchildren, Joy and husband Philippe, Jeff, Lisa, Shawn, Tasha, Todd, Sarah, David, and great-granddaughter, Josie.
He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Marion Messom; infant daughter, Eileen; half-sister, Bessie Burgher; sisters, Dorothy Hudson, Alice Trask, Laura Farnsworth, Thelma Croft; brothers, Jim, Wallace, Roland, Tom, Dick, Gordon, Fred and Floyd.
Visitation will be 8-9:30 p.m. today and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday in W.C. Hiltz Funeral Parlour, Kentville. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 14, in Canning United Baptist Church, Rev. Andy Crowell officiating.
Private family burial will be in Habitant Cemetery. Family flowers only.
Memorial donations to the Children's Wish Foundation or Canning United Baptist Church would be greatly appreciated.
