St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Pictou,
was the scene of a pretty wedding on November 30, 1974,at 7:00 p.m.
when Catherine Anne Battist and John Frederick Langille were united in marriage.
Rev. Waldon Moase performed the double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Battist, Waterside.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Langille, Central Caribou.
Baskets of mixed flowers, Canadian holly and pine graced the altar.
The guest pews were marked with lace dolies and MacKenzie tartan ribbon.
Organist, Mrs. Hector Holton, Pictou, accompanied Mrs. Ellard Irving, Pictou,
who rendered "O Promise Me" and "The Wedding Prayer".
The bride, given in marriage by her father,
wore a white embroidered peau de soie gown on princess lines featuring a stand up collar and long full sleeves.
A pearl tiara held her four tier viel(sic) of tulle illusion in place.
Silver sandals and earrings complemented her gown.
Her bouquet was of red roses and white carnations.
Marilyn MacKenzie, Caribou River, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor.
Her floor length gown of pink embroidered peau de soie featured a high neckline and long sleeves.
She wore a pink velvet ribbon in her hair and carried a white fur muff
on which was pinned a yellow rose corsage.
Bridesmaids were Elizabeth Battist, Waterside,
sister of the bride and Glennie Langille, Central Caribou, sister of the groom.
Elizabeth's floor length gown was of pink embroidered peau de soie featuring
a round neckline and short puff sleeves.
She wore a pink velvet ribbon in her ahir and carried a white fur muff
on which was pinned a pink rose corsage.
Glennie's gown was identical but in the shade of green.
She wore a green velvet ribbon in her hair and carried a white fur muff on which was pinned a corsage of pink roses.
Raymond Battist, Waterside, brother of the bride, was best man.
Edward Bullerwell, Halifax, brother-in-law of the groom and Russell Smith, Bayview, were ushers.
A reception for 65 guests followed the ceremony at St. Andrew's Church Hall. It was catered to by Fraser Auxiliary.
For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Battist wore a floor length gown of beige polyester
with lace bodice and sleeves.
Her accessories were of gold and she wore a corsage of yellow roses.
For her son's wedding Mrs. Langille chose a floor length gown
of blue polyester featuring white collar and cuffs.
Black accessories complemented her outfit and she wore a corsage of red roses.
The bride's table was covered with a white lace tablecloth on which
was centred a three tier wedding cake surrounded at the base with tulle and rosebuds.
The cake was flanked by lighted tapers and vases of red roses.
The bride and groom cut and served the cake to their guests in the traditional manner.
Rev. Waldon Moase offered grace.
The toast to the bride was proposed by the best man, Raymond Battist.
Circulating the guest book was Mrs. Edward Bullerwell, sister of the groom.
The bride's bouquet was caught by Marilyn MacKenzie, Caribou River.
For a wedding trip to points of interest in Nova Scotia,
the bride wore a blue plazzo suit with pin rose corsage.
They have taken up residence at 12 Elliott St., Pictou.
The groom is employed at Michelin Tire, Granton.
Guests were present from Halifax, Sydney, Truro and surrounding Pictou County towns.
