Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Langille's 40th Wedding Anniversary
PICTOU: Over 150 relatives and friends gathered at the Pictou Legion on
Saturday, Sept. 18, to honor
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred G. Langille, of Martha Street, Pictou,
on the occasion of their 40th anniversary.
The couple were married at the St. James Rectory in Pictou,
on Sept. 15, 1942, by the late Rev. L.R. Bent.
They have six children - four daughters,
Janice (Mrs. Harold McGaugh), who is living in West Germany;
Judy (Mrs. Tom Flowers), living in Texas;
Coleen (Mrs. Colin Rafuse), Caribou River,
Maxine (Mrs. Robert Kennedy), Abercrombie;
and two sons, Robert, living in Hamilton, Ont.; and
Glen, living in Saint John, N.B.
Of the six children, only the two daughters living in Pictou County were able to attend the celebration.
For the special occasion, Mrs. Langille wore a street-length dress
of winter white polyester with a lace top bodice in a Lady Dianna neckline style,
accentuated with a corsage of pink sweetheart roses intermingled with baby's breath and a ruby coloured ribbon.
The bride's attendant, Mrs. Glady Battist, was present for the occasion.
The groom's attendant was the late James Fielder of Pictou.
The hall was decorated with pink and white streamers with bells.
The main table was centered by a three tier wedding cake, enhanced by ruby candles on each side.
The floral arrangements that adorned the tables and the hall
were donated and arranged by Mrs. Doreen Snow and Mrs. Elaine Jay, sisters to the groom.
Mayor Ernest Jordan was also in attendance and conveyed a congratulatory message to the couple.
A buffet lunch of sandwiches and sweets was served.
Following the social hour, Mr. and Mrs. Langille led everyone into dance,
with the opening waltz being, "I Can't Stop Loving You".
The music was provided by Pictou's own "Shiretowners",
now referred to as "Eastbound", was enjoyed by all.
Many gifts, flowers, monetary gifts and cards were received.
The evening ended with everyone wishing the bride and groom many more years of happiness.
