Introduction

Our LANGHORN Family History has been developed by a small, dispersed group of FH researchers living in England - in Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Hampshire and Gloucestershire.  Their details are included in the contacts section and at relevant points of the genealogy pages.  We pool information and discuss problems presented by some of our less well documented ancestors.  This has all become so much easier now that we all enjoy email.  There are other recently discovered cousins elsewhere in the world, notably in the United States, Canada and South Africa.

The following pages try to display some of the current knowledge of our ancestors.  I hope that we have made the information as intelligible as possible.  Any suggestions for improvements in our content or presentation would be very welcome.

The data we include has come from many sources which are not generally included in this presentation.   Sources can be quoted if requested by email.

2003 - A Quiet Year, but some interesting progress!

I guess we all find that interest/time/energy available for Family History research comes and goes - 2003 has seen a relatively quiet spell in our researches.  Despite this we have established some 'new' cousins during 2003.

Through one of Langhorn www lists I contacted Tom Ayres who had posted the message: "Seek parents of William Langhorne, born in 1805, Pollington, married Mary Ann Britton, in 1827, Snaith, Eng. Any help will be appreciated."  We quickly established that Tom, my 4th cousin once removed, was yet another of our American branch, Ohio chapter!  Tom has now been to visit his one of other cousins still in the area - Bill Thornton.

Having joined GenesConnected through the Friends Reunited website I have made a few new FH contacts.  The latest was Nev Barker, who now lives and works in Snaith.  Nev is a descendant of Sarah Langhorn, 11th child of Miles Langhorn and Ann Moseley, who married James Barker in 1800.  Nev and I are 5th cousins.

The other puzzle we solved was placing Gordon Langhorn and his family in our FH.  Gordon, who I used to hear in the Ken Mackintosh Dance Band, turned out to be my 3rd cousin.  Later, when he went solo, Gordon adopted the stage name of Don Lang.  In 2003 we made contact with his son who has changed his name formally from Bradley Langhorn to Brad Lang.

Steele Puzzle Solved!

Ever since we were given the transcription of William Spencer's comprehensive Will we have wondered how to find Maria's relatives who were included as beneficiaries.  Meanwhile on the far side of the world John Steele was demonstrating the power of Internet searching to a friend, he entered 'Steele & Brisbane'.  What a lovely surprise he got when our website came up showing his great grandmother as a beneficiary of William Spencer!  John put an entry into our guestbook and we have exchanged further information.  Sadly John is not directly related to the 'Langhorn' researchers.  Perhaps we could adopt him as a distant step-cousin!
