1938, Article on Andrew and Carrie Knudson, Waupaca County, Wisconsin

"Their Progeny Totals 1771. A record for big families, longevity and long residence in one place must go to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Knutson, who live near the Dow school, in the town of St. Lawrence. Mr. Knutson, born in Aretdel, Norway in 1833, came to America in 1847, where he married, in 1856, Katherine Knutson who was born in Hiterdahl, Norway, in 1838.

The couple came to St. Lawrence directly after their marriage and settled in the home they still occupy. They have 17 living children, 58 grandchildren, 93 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren!

Mr. Knutson, although 96 years old, still does work about the farm, while Mrs. Knutson, 90, does her full share of the housework."

William and Anna Lamphear are buried at Hatton Cemetery near his parents and two of their sons, George and Andrew. Their stone is marked "Zebulon Lamphear Donor".

Their offspring produced 37 grandchildren, most still living in Wisconsin.

Their boys all served in World War I.

Information on this family provided by Palmer Myhra.

Andrew Lamphear Andrew was Palmer’s favorite uncle. So much so that Palmer wrote a story about Andrew. Andrew never married and lived with Amanda on the farm for a while. He also worked as a farm hand just down the road from his grandparents, Zebulon and Betsey in Lind Township. There are silos still standing. (Go west from Zebulon’s farm, turn North - about 1/4 mile up the road the silos are on the right.) The silos were built around the 1950’s so they weren’t there when Andrew worked on the farm, but they are a good marker as to where the farm was.
