Henry Lamphear        (Updated July 11, 2000)   
Son of Zebulon Lamphear and Betsey Hier

Henry was not capable of caring for himself and lived with his parents and later with his sister Laura. He ended up in the Waupaca County Poor Farm, to be cared for by the state. It is said that Zebulon had tried to get the state to take care of Henry earlier, it is not known at this time if this actually occurred.

1893, May 2  H. Lamphear was paid $50 by the estate of Zebulon Lamphear for work.

1894, September 10  Henry helped his brother William build a fence on his parent’s property. He was paid $1.00 for his work.

1893, November 22  Henry is Plaintiff in an action against the estate of Zebulon Lamphear. Henry was alleging that his father’s estate owned him for work done in the past. His borther, Loren, and mother gave testimony during the hearing. Loren states that he offered to let Henry live with him in exchange for his work. Betsey testifies that Henry never got along with Loren or Justus. She also testifies that Zebulon was always statisfied with Henry’s work when he was sober and that Henry wanted to go away to work, but that they wouldn’t let him.

1895, January 30  The estate of Zebulon Lamphear paid a judgment to Henry Lamphear of $603.33.

1897, June 8 When the estate of Zebulon Lamphear was settled, Henry was living in Lind Township, Waupaca County, Wisconsin. He inherited $230.11.

1900 Wisconsin Census Henry was living in Lind Township, Waupaca County, Wisconsin with his sister, Laura and brother-in-law, Richard Woolsey. Richard is listed as head of household.
