Hattie & William Grimshaw had a son William [Willy] Grimshaw  born about 1881 and a daughter Lillian Maude Grimshaw born on 12 June 1882 in Keene. Hatties husband William died 17 Sept 1884 of tuberculosis.  Hattie married Phineus Taylor 4 Sept 1888.  Phineus was born in 1862.

In the 1880 Census  Willy Grimshaw was living with his mother and stepfather, but Lillian is not.  She may have been staying with her Grimshaw grandparents in Churubusco.  Note: The 1890 census were burned and that is why the state did the 1892 Census.  In the 1900 Census Willy is not listed.  He would have been 19 and if living may have taken the Taylor name..   Phineus and Hattie had no children together. This information from the Town Historian in Keene, NY.  The search is still on for Willy.

 Phineas L Taylor

----------

Phineas L. Taylor, 61 years old, was found dead in his bed last Sunday morning in his cottage on South Main street, in this village. For two years he had been suffering with hardening of the walls of the heart, and much of the time had been practically an invalid. Recently he had appeared to be improving in health, and his sudden death was a good deal of a shock to the family, and to his many friends here.

Mr. Taylor was born in North Elba and lived within the town for the most of his life. On September 4, 1888, he was married to Mrs. Hattie Grimshaw, in Keene, where they lived for the four years following. For about eight years, up to some ten or twelve years ago, they had charge of the Notch House on the Wilmington road . They then purchased the cottage on South Main street where they afterwards lived, and where Mrs. Taylor died four years ago the 1st of last January.

He is survived by one step-daughter, Mrs. Peter Belmore, of this place; by two sisters, Mrs. H. C. Torrance of North Elba and Mrs. Carrie Taylor of Lake Placid, and by a half-sister, Mrs. H. Bly, of Crown Point; and by four brothers, Samuel Taylor, of Lake Placid, William E. Taylor of Keene Valley, Nathan Taylor of Keene Valley, and Arthur Taylor of Elizabethtown.

The funeral was held Tuesday at the house, Rev. R. L. Clark officiating. Burial in North Elba cemetery.

Interesting Family Trivia

A childhood accident left Phineas Taylor a cripple for life.  He overcame it with a short stick and yoke which was strapped to his thigh beneath his hip. When he sat down he twisted it out of the way.

When Phineas' father died,  Phineas, Hattie and Lillian moved into his house.  It was the house John Brown used the first time he came to North Elba to purchase land and arrange to build the house which now stands near Brown's grave. However the house burned when they were there in 1900.
