Daniel was born in Caldwell's Manor, Missisquoi County, Quebec. He married Mary Ann Bacheldor in Stanstead, Stanstead County, Quebec.
It appears that Daniel J. Covey enlisted into 8th Regiment, Co. B on 1 February 1862. His residence was then listed as Derby. Daniel is said to have been mustered out 18 February 1862. He re-enlisted 18 Febuary 1864, deserted 18 May 1864, was returned on 10 May 1865 under Pres. Proc. War Department and received a dishonorable discharge 11 May 1865.
Daniel James Covey and Mary Ann Bacheldor had the following children:
Carl C. Covey was born in Brownington, Orleans Co, VT 4 February 1865.
? Covey was born in Brownington, Orleans Co, VT October 1865. ? died October 1865 in Brownington, Orleans Co, VT, at less than one year of age.
