DEATH OF FRED HILL SHOCKS MANY FRIENDS

Funeral Held From Home On Sunday Afternoon.

The people of the Stiles District, near North Russell, were shocked Thursday to learn that Fred Hill, a farmer, 58 years of age, of that neighborhood, had taken his own life. Despondency caused by a long illness is believed to have led him to do this. Mrs. Hill was in the barn shortly after noon and heard a shot at the house. Going there she was overcome to find her husband’s body lying on the floor of his room with a shotgun wound through his heart and a gun at this side.

Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon, Rev. H. P. Morrell, of Canton, officiating and many friends and neighbors attending. Burial was in Fairview cemetery in Canton village.

Fred Hill was a native of Russell where he was born on Nov. 4, 1872, son of Andrew and Addie Robertson Hill. In June, 1899, he married Miss Eva Blackmer, of Dekalb. For the past 35 years they had resided on the farm where his death occurred. He was a member of the Maccabees. Surviving are his widow and four daughters, Mrs. Perley Williams and Mrs. Virgil Chilton of Hermon; Mrs. Garcia Morrow, of North Russell, and Florence who, with the son, Lester, lives at home. There is also a brother, Don Hill, well known farmer, and eight grandchildren.
