ALTA LAMBING GAY
This was written by Ida Gay Evans
(in about 1970), Alta's daughter and Isaac Lambing's granddaughter. This information was supplied by Kathy Marcinek, R.D.#6, Box 187, Kittanning, Pa 16201.
My mother was born in Oregon, the oldest of four children, the other three were boys. Her mother, Melitta, was not very strong and the damp climate there did not agree with her. Her mother came from Ohio to help her. The family moved to Idaho City, Idaho where the mining industry was at its peek. My grandfather was a "roving miner", before they moved to Idaho, but soon had mining interests and the only saw mill in that area. My grandmother died when her youngest boy was only a few months old. My mother was educated in a private Catholic School. Later they moved to Ione California, still following mining, had Chinese help at the mines and for house work. My grandfather Lambing and my father (William Gay who was in California) became partners, and later my parents were married. Later, after the mines there were worked out, they all came to Golden, Colo, where they spent most of their lives.
My mother
was gifted in many ways. She did all kinds of beautiful fancy work,
sewed and made practically all of her five girls clothes. She was
a great reader, enjoyed good reading. If she had had the time and
opportunity, she would have been an author. She kept up on all current
affairs, as did my father. They both insisted on all six of their
children graduating from high school, for which we have been very grateful.
