Susan, was the second wife of Luther William Pearl (1841 - 1903), who, as his
oldest daughter, Carrie Leanna Pearl Owings (1865 - 1956) told me, came from
the Frederick MD area (Adamstown). Luther's first wife was Emily McBee (1844
- 1872), who died of Smallpox in Martinsburg WV in 1872, 27 years and ten months
of age. As I understand it, my grandfather and a colored man were the only ones
who would touch the body, and took it to the cemetery in Martinsburg for burial.
In 1877, while a B&O railroad conductor, Luther Pearl met and married Susan
Drenner, my maternal grandmother.".
