Ray Honored Camp Barrett's medical hall at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, VA. was officially named Ray Hall recently in honor of local hero David (Bobby) Ray who received the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously for his gallantry in Viet-nam. During dedication ceremonies Colonel Terry J. Ebbert retold the story of how Petty Officer Second Class Ray moved from parapet to parapet treating wounded soldiers depite the fact he was wounded himself. "David Ray's aaction represent the close bond that ties warriors on the battlefield and reflects the exceptional importance of the Navy-Marine Corps team, " Ebbert stated. On March 19, 1969, Petty Officer Second Class Ray began treating heavy casualties when a batallion-sized enemy force launched an assault against the battery position near An Hoa, Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. Just before an enemy grenade hit Ray threw himself onto the tatient he was treating. This was his last act of selfless devoton and heroism. Ray's father, David Ray, and Lt. Gen. William R. Etnyre, commanding general of the Marine Corps Combat Development Command, were on hand for the unveiling of a plaque dedicating the medical facility to the late corpsman. Ebbert said the building's new name will remind Marines and sailors how import Navy Corpsman are to the military and the sacrifices they make.
