I have been looking for family history on the LaBarge family for years and have had no luck. My great grandfather was Roger LeBarge. His daughter, Georgelina was my grandmother. The information I do have on him is that he always spelt his last name 'LeBarge', yet his other daughter, Josephine, always spelt it LaBarge.
Roger was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1866, and died in 1936 at his homestead, located by Fort Walsh, Sask. His daughter Josephine claimed she was named after a paddlewheel boat that plied the Missouri river from St. Louis to Fort Benton, Montana, and that the captain, by the name of LaBarge, was her grandfather.
The information passed on to me from an aunt, was that her grandfather's family never had anything to do with riverboats, and that he was born and educated in Winnipeg, attending a French school, and taught himself to read english. After he was grown up, he and his faher went to Montana and settled on land south of Havre, and that is where he met my great grandmother, Madeline Bonneau. They apparently hauled freight to Fort Benton, possibly by oxen. The only relatives this aunt remembered her grandfather mentioning was a sister, by the name of Mary Bell from Winnipeg, and a niece in North Dakota, her last name possibly being Lafferty. This niece corresponded with my grandmother, Georgelina, until her passing in 1926, and correspondence with the sister was also lost after my great-grandmother's passing in 1951.
If you have any information, tips, etc you could pass on it would be greatly appreciated.

My name is William Francis LaBarge. My father is Leodore Francis LaBarge III. His father was Leodore Francis LaBarge II. This is were my interest begins. My Grandfather was born in Winthrop, NY on August 6, 1921. The Last 10 years of his life he lived in Schenectady, NY more specifically Rotterdam Junction. He was an auto mechanic and owned the L&M service station when he was killed in an auto verses pedestrian accident. I was recently in Schenectady this past weekend and visited his grave to say hi and pay respects to him. As I arrived I noticed that there were fresh flowers on the grave. I called my father and he wasn't surprised. He told me that my Grandfather had between 20 to 29 children with various women including my Grandmother. I know my fathers direct brothers but am looking to get information on the rest. If anyone has any information or could steer me into the proper direction you may contact me via email. Thank You for your time. It will be greatly appreciated.

Dear Cousins,
Some years ago, I hired a pretty young University student to translate the book "Robert de la Berge de Columby sur-Thaon" by Pierre -Lionel De la Berge. The student finished the Introduction and Chapter one and upon being paid returned (unbeknownst to me) to her homeland with my valuable book. This curbed my activity for some time and I decided it would be more economical to try to convince Lionel-Pierre into doing it. Well.... a fine friend he turned out to be!!!!! Recently, he turned the tables on me and graciously agreed to allow me to proceed with a translation so that his English speaking cousins would have ready access to the important information contained therein. Read on to see how you fit in........
This effort should be the work of all. I could, of course, use Alta Vista Babel Fish Translator. Unfortunately, it takes me many weeks to translate one page and I am getting to olde to start a project which I may not be around to finish. More important, I am never certain of its correctness and if we are to undertake this challenge from Lionel-Pierre, it would be with the promise that we capture the true intent of his words.
Fortunately, the internet gives us a ready mechanism to share the load. As self appointed Editor-in-Chief a simple action plan is as follows:
1. Secure sufficient French speaking volunteers to lighten the load for everyone.
2.Coordinate the typing, formatting, etc
3. Publish the document before the next Family Reunion in L'Ange Gardien
You are critical to the process...especially if you are bi-lingual translators. We will need people who can help coordinate all of the activities by use of the internet.
16 volunteers at one chapter each; or, 10 volunteers at 32 pages each; or any combination thereof will do the trick.
Please consider helping in any way you can. Let me know where your expertise is and I will put together the best team possible. If you have family who can help, please let them know. Please let me know what you think you or a friend of yours can do and the time frame you can do it in. You can respond on Genforum or at rhlaberge@albanymanagement.com.

Dieudonne LaBerge and Marie Derosier married 10 May 1879 in Taftville, CT at the Sacred Heart Church. Marie was from Killingly, CT and the family used Rose or Rosebush for their last name. Dieudonne used this as a first name or Joseph. I am still looking for info on his parents. His son Dieudonne married Marie Julia Beaugrand-Champagne. Hi, I have been interested for some time in the family of Joseph Labarge Sr, father of the famous river boat captain. From the book Trappers of the Far Northwest by Leroy Hafen, I understand that Joseph Sr was killed by the Indians in 1824. I have looked around a little for information about him and believe that his widow Eulalie Hortez remarried in 1826 in St Louis to a man named William Smith. Does anyone know if there are half brothers and sisters named Smith belonging to Captain Joseph Labarge. I have been looking for sometime for Smiths from Missouri with some Spanish or Mexican background. I would be very happy to know more about this William Smith who married Eulalie. Thanks. I am seeking the whereabouts of one of our cousins named Margaret Wade Labarge. Margaret authored a book in 1980 entitled "Gascony - England's First Colony - 1204 to 1453. At the time she lived in Ottawa having been educated at Harvard and Oxford Universities. She taught at Ottawa and Carelton Universities.
Gascony was a region in the south-western part of current day France, also referred to as Aquitaine, with its western apex centered around the city of Bourdeaux.
In a note she states' "Among those who received pardons for service in Gascony and elsewhere was Robert de LaBarge, who had been indicted for homicides, robberies, burning of ships and other trespasses against men of the Cinque Ports, CPR 1301-07, 436.
(as a completely innocent aside, I must point out that I told you so.......... when I stated unequivocally that those LaBarges were a dastardly bunch!!!)

Hello,
My husband and I are researching the Laberge family name. He is a U.S. citizen, and I am a Canadian citizen, and we are currently trying to process documents which will allow him to immigrate to Canada. We recently became aware that he has decendants that are/were Canadian citizens, which would make it somewhat easier to gain him access to Canada. This is the information we have:
His full name: Alan Bradley Clements
Email address: joyce.clements@sympatico.ca
Information required: We are looking for any and all information on Frank Laberge, who is a descendant of Louis Laberge and Adeline Lafontain. What we are particularly looking to find out is if Frank(Francis Michel) Laberge(who married Ruth Bolen) retained his Canadian Citizenship, even after moving to the U.S. If anyone has any information on this matter, we would greatly appreciate it. Francis Michel Laberge, born 2-1-1891, Died 5-17-1958
Thank you.

My grandmother was biologically a LaBarge/Laberge, born in 1914 in Malone, NY. Her parents were never married, and I don't believe she ever knew her biological father; she was later adopted by her stepfather. Therefore, I have very, very little to go on, but am interested in finding out if her father was ever married, had other children, etc. I'm also curious to know if the family was aware of my grandmother's birth.
The only clues I have are that my great-grandmother (Hazel Durant) was born right around the turn of the century, and so the father of her child was most likely born in the 1890's as well. He might have been Canadian, or else moved to Canada following my grandmother's birth, but obviously had ties to Malone. He was there for at least 9 months -- possibly skipping town when my great-great grandfather went after him with a shotgun when his name was revealed as the father of Hazel's baby! :) It's possible that his first name was William, but we won't know for sure until we get a copy of her birth certificate (it's just a guess at this point). It will be hard to know until then if we find the right person, but for now it will help to pare it down to the right area/timeframe.
Any information surrounding this bit of history, who my great-grandfather might have been, would be quite appreciated. It is quite possible that none of his other descendants are aware of another line in the family tree either, so this is an interesting exploration! If you put some of this information on your website, people can get in touch with me at de_light@email.com.
Thanks so much!

I am researching an Urban Laberge married to Lalique Lafleur, my gggrandparents who were living in Cambridge, VT in 1832. I believe both were born in Canada. They had three children I know of-Thomas b. abt. 1828-31, Edward b. Jan. 26, 1832, Cambridge, VT and William b. abt. 1850-1852 in NY. Edward was my ggrandfather. In 1853 Edward was married to a Matilda Galarneau in Keeseville, NY. At some time after their marriage date the surname was switched to Roberge and then the present spelling of Robarge. Edward and Matilda were to live most of their life in the Malone, NY area. Does anyone have any information about these people?

I am helping Carole Walsh research her family line LaBarge. Her ancestor Louis LaBarge died in Port Henry and it was told through family lore that he was born French Canadian. As all eventually link to Robert LaBerge, she would like to know where they fit in. His wife is named Ellen Lounge Way. When Louis died, she took the childen, Louis, John, Fred, and Florence to Clark Co, Wisconsin. She later married Emory Breed and then to Joe Reauth.
Any suggestions appreciated.
