The Kyle family to date has only been traced back to c 1795. It
is very doubtful that I can get back any further because records in Ireland where they
came from have been destroyed. I found the "first" of the family in
1838 where Mary-Ann KYLES married William LANG at Renfrew Abbey, Ayrshire, Scotland. Her
parents were Agness MCKINDLAY and Angus KYLES. In the 1841 census I found
Mary had her sister Hellen with her. In 1842 Hellen married Robert BLAIR. In
the 1861 census Mary-Ann had her brother James and another sister Jean (Jane)
at her house. In December 1851 James married Catherine CRAWFORD. Finally
after many years I located Jean (Jane) in 1858 when she married James MOLLOY
in Glasgow before
immediately moving back to Dalry and having her first baby just 4 months
later. She went on to have 5 girls. An interesting fact about Jean (Jane)
although she was 19 in the 1851 census she was only 20 some 7 years later
when marrying> I do know it is her as her marriage certificate shows her
parents as Angus and Agnes... Unfortunately Mary-Ann died in 1858, but it was
because of her death I was able to discover her parents’ names. Her
father Angus KYLES was still alive at her death but her mother Agness
MCKINDLAY had passed on. I traced the death of Angus KYLES. He died in 1872
in Renfrew. He was currently married to Judy Patterson a 30 year old Irish
lass and they had a 13 year old girl named Mary-Ann. This 2nd Mary-Ann was
born just months after Angus' eldest daughter had died. I have never been
able to trace Angus in Scotland until his
death so that is my next project.
James
died in 1875 and in 1879 Catherine came to New
Zealand with
several children. Agnes her eldest had already married John SHORE and had
come to New
Zealand in 1874 and
William followed in 1883.
