This song was originally written by my Uncle Larry Presley (s/o Elmer Presley & Maudie Durham). He wrote this shortly after Elmer passed away. Larry studder when he spoke, but when it sang he didn't. He wrote several songs and made an album. If anyone knows of a way to take the music from the album and put in on the this website, please contact me. I would greatly love to share his music with you.

          NO BLACK LUNG IN HEAVEN

          (Chorus)
There'll be no black lung in Heaven.
No smothering when they walk on streets
of gold, and the miners that make it in
          will be breathing good again.
There'll be no black lung over there.

          Recite
I'd like to dedicate this to all miners and retired miners who have worked in the coal mines. I remember my dad who was a good man, he also worked in the coal mines.

He put up 43 years of his life under the mountain digging coal. Sometimes he would leave the house before day light and get back home after dark working to support a wife and seven children.

On the 26 day of October 1977 he had a heart attack and died on Thanksgiving day of that year. During the last 3 weeks of his life he would get his breath kinda hard but at that time he didn't know he was dying from that awful dreadful disease called black lung. I have heart trouble myself and I did not get to attend the funeral on account of my heart being out of wack, but I'm sure the Lord understands that.

Three weeks passed and the Lord gave me a vision of Dad. In this vision I sang the Eastern Gate at the funeral, as I sang the second verse I stepped off the platform and stood in front of the casket looking at him and the second verse goes like this, "If you hasten off to Glory linger near the Eastern Gate for I'm coming in the morning you'll not have long to wait." The feeling that came over me as I sang that was the most best and wonderful feeling.

Since then when I sing this song it brings not a sad but a happy memory to me for up in Heaven I know from this we're all free. When we reach that city bright and fair praise God there'll be no black lung up there.

          (Last Chorus)
If we never meet again this side of Heaven I will meet you on that beautiful shore.
