Sgt. John Absher, Jr.
John is s/o Mr. and Mrs. John Absher
Junior was killed in the invasion of Normandy the second day back with his unit after being in the hospital for a wound he received on his leg. A few months after this my Grandmother and Grandfather and mother's younger sister were traveling to Knoxville, TN on a train when a young man introduced himself and said, "You had a son in the army didn't you?" and they told him "Yes". Then he said, "Your son looked so much like you, he was my Sgt. and he had the most beautiful teeth I ever saw." "He loved his family so much, one day while we were in fox holes an old lady came by and offered buttermilk to the soldiers and he took some and thanked her." He was well loved and respected by his men, because he took care of them and tried to help them any way he could and always carried his Testament." So hearing these words they knew that he really did know their son.
