Morris, age 79, the eldest daughter of the late Isaac H. and Rachel Morris and a sister of the late Mark M. Morris, a former recorder of Henry county, died at the Indiana Masonic home at Fran klin, Ind., Friday night, after a period of failing health. Miss Morris spent her entire life in Henry and Randolph counties, teaching in the schools of both counties from the time she was sixteen ye ars of age until a few years ago. For the past year she had resided with her nephew, George G. Morris on South Eleventh street, until three weeks ago, when she was taken to Franklin. Mrs. Seth Symon s of Spiceland, a half-sister, is the only near surviving relative. George G., Claude, Irvin and Ora Morris of New Castle, Herbert of Iowa and Taylor Morris of Camp Shelby, Miss., are nephews. The funeral was held at Glencoe chapel at Knightstown with the Rev. Zeno Doane of Knightstown in charge. Interment took place at Glencoe cemetery.)."

""Mrs. Susanna Morris, aged 78 years died at her home in Knightstown Saturday morning a few moments after the fatal explosion of nitro-glycerine. She had been in poor health for some time and the shoc k of the explosion evidently had something to do wtih the demise. She was the mother of the late Mark Morris and grandmother of George G. Morris of this city [actually, a step parent]." The explosio n to which the obituary refers involved 500 quarts of nitro-glycerine which killed one worker outright and leveled three buildings. The cause of the explosion was not discovered."

"(John Morris, a prominent farmer of Wayne Township, was born in Belmont County, Ohio, April 18, 1824, a son of Lewis and Rebecca (Hoskinson) Morris, his father a native of Maryland [the 1850 census s ays New Jersey] and his mother of Virginia. His parents were married in Virginia [now West Virginia], and afterward moved to Ohio, and from there to Henry County, Ind., in the spring of 1833. They s ettled on a farm north of Knightstown, where they lived the remainder of their lives. They had a family of nine children, but three of whom are living. [The living would be John, Alpheus and probabl y Julia Ann. ] John Morris was reared on a farm in Henry County, and on reaching manhood engaged in agriculture and stock raising on his own account. He is one of the most successful stock-raisers in the county. H e owns a fine farm of 210 acres, on which he lived forty years but in 1874 moved to the farm in Wayne Township, where he now lives, somewhat retired. His homestead contains fifty-five acres of choic e land, and his residence is a fine two-story frame building. Mr. Morris was married in 1845 to Hannah, daughter of Elisha Scovell, of Henry County. They have had a family of ten children, seven o f whom are living. Mrs. and Mrs. Morris are members of the Presbyterian church.Hazzard reports that after Lewis C. died in 1858, John "acquired the several interests of the heirs in the old homestea d and improved the property until in 1874 he was the owner of two hundred and twelve acres of highly improved land located where the family first settled in 1833." )."
