WILLIAM RILEY LEE was born 15 October 1847 in Claiborne County, Tennessee and
died 18 December 1935 in Knox County, Kentucky. He is the Son of JAMES HARVEY
LEE and SARAH CATHERINE HOWERTON. He married (1) NANCY M DOWIS on
19 August 1871 in Knox County, Kentucky. She is the Daughter of WILLIAM DOWIS
and ALLEY HART. Nancy was born 02 September 1856 and died 05 November 1899.
They had 12 Children. He then married (2) JANIE M STORM in 1906. Janie was born
09 June 1881 and died 20 December 1973. They had 7 Children. William, Nancy and
Janie are all buried at the Dowis-Lee Cemetery, Wilton, Knox County, Kentucky. William
fought from 13 June 1863 to 26 December 1864 for the Union Army in Company B of the
49th Kentucky Infantry. William’s father also fought in the same unit as William.
William had a son from his marriage with Janie that also served in the Military; Carl served
as a Private in the U.S. Army during World War II.

SERVICE.-Moved to Somerset, Ky., October 28, 1863, and duty in that vicinity till January, 1864. Moved to Camp Burnside, Ky., January 3-4, and duty there till August, 1864. At Lexington August and at Camp Nelson till October. Ordered to Tennessee October 1 and railroad guard duty near Murfreesboro and between Wartrace and Mill Creek till November. At Lexington, Ky., till December. Mustered out December 26, 1864.
Regiment lost during service 1 Enlisted man killed and 1 Officer and 74 Enlisted men by disease. Total 76.
