To: Kygal@tampabay.rr.com Subject: Reuben Brock on your website Date: Monday, January 24, 2005 5:48 PM Hi, Sue Ann, Looking at your B for Brock descendants page -- I note your statement: "Many references claim that REUBEN BROCK is the Father of AARON BROCK and I have personally had this same information since 1973. It may or may not be true but until the time it is proven or disproven this information will continue to stay on my website. Take it for what it’s worth, and do your own homework on the Brock line. My disclaimer states this may or may not be verified and you should always verify thur other sources. I am also told some of the children I have listed here are NOT children of AARON but again, until proven differently my information will stand as it is. Please do not take this as I accept the fact that REUBEN is the father of AARON or not. I just prefer to leave things as they are until any proof comes along." So, I'm writing to offer proof that Aaron Brock did NOT have a son Reuben (b. bef 1754). This Reuben was a son of Rudolph Heinrich Brack/Brock (from Switzerland)'s son Frederick Brock. This Reuben never lived anywhere around Aaron Brock's family, either in VA or in KY. He was b. in Orange Co., NC, then lived in Rutherford and Caswell Cos., NC, in the midst of his Brack/Brock family from Switzerland; served in the Revolution from and died in Anderson Co., SC in 1842, as shown in his Revolutionary pension application of 1832. His brother Isaac Brock named a son Reuben after him, and there were nephews too by that name. You notice the name Reuben is never used in the KY Brock family. Reuben b. 1745 is shown to be Frederick's son in two books: Frederick Brock 1719-1807: His American Family, by Clarence C. Brock, Jr., Alexandria, VA, 1997. and this about Frederick's father's family: A Brock Family History: Swiss Brack-American Brock, by Robert L. Brock, Gateway Press, Baltimore, 1992. I have studied these books, both well documented, and have considerable info about this family on and linked from my EARLIEST BROCKS IN VA page on my website. Take care. I checked it out first of all because many, many of my family came from Kentucky, particularly Breckinridge County. I'm related to the Bashams through both my mother (Kelm) and my father (Rachel Mayberry). I am related to the Hardin, White surnames also on my father's side. Here's some things I noticed and will pass on to you to be a help to you and other researchers. Generation 2 I have Obadiah S. Basham, b. 07 April 1760; d. 28 May 1850 in Breckinridge County, KY (Breckenridge is incorrect spelling) Their children were: i. Bartlett A. Basham, b 1783, Bedford Co, VA; d 1850, Warren Co, KY ii. Generation 3 Bartlett Basham (Obadiah, Sarah) I HAVE THE SAME INFO AS YOU DO EXCEPT concerning Rachel Mayberry. They were married 19 October 1798 in Bedford Co, VA. She died in 1821. He then married Nicey Simmons 1822 who died 18 Apr 1873. Bartlett and Rachael had the following children: i. George Dowell Basham, b 1803 ii. I HAVE THE SAME INFO YOU DO ON THE REST OF THEIR CHILDREN THROUGH NAPOLEON BASHAM. Hope this can be a help to you or someone else. I don't put my info on the internet, but willing to share with those who are truly "connected". I am 67 years old and have been researching my direct lines since I was 11 years old. Have all info on Family Tree Maker version 11. The info I have is researched, some obtained through oral history, and some through the other same surname researchers who have contacted me. Must get to bed. It's 12:40 am here in Georgia where I now live. God bless. |
To: "'Sue Ann Morrow'" kygal@tampabay.rr.com Subject: RE: James Hensley Date: Friday, November 26, 2004 10:43 AM I see your information. I do not expect a 14 year old male (Indpendent in 1787 and James in 1801) to be married and have children. I have James in the 1850 census with some of the same children and several that are not listed. For example, there is no Julian in the household. Please check 1850 census - Rutherford County, Cathies Creek, page 273B(546), line 36, age 45 for James and his family as I understand them. I have James born in about 1801 to 1804 by census ages from 1850 through 1880 and also by his tombstone (although that does not mean as much in my opinion.) Obviously this ten year difference would make it impossible for John born in 1797 to be his father. Could you elaborate on how you made the connection to John? From: "Merlin & Carolyn Stice Kitchen" <mkitchen@stice.org> To: <Kygal@tampabay.rr.com> Subject: genealogy, Lindsey family Date: Sunday, October 10, 2004 6:44 PM Sue Ann Morrow Coming to you again with corrections. This time the family of John W. Lindsey and Martha Viola Harrison. They were married 3 September 1897, which you have correctly. You list 4 children (1) Everett (your ID 4032), b. 22 June 1898 (2) Myrtle (3) William (4) Annie I don't think 2, 3, or 4 belong in this family. Martha Viola is shown as a widow in the 1900 census with 1 child, Everett. The Edmonson county Marriage records show that she married John W. Conway 7 August 1900. (his 3rd marriage, her 2nd marriage). John and Viola Conway are shown in the 1910 census. It is stated that Viola has given birth to 4 children, all listed with the family: Evert Lindsey, age 11; Elvy Conway, age 8; Nanny Conway, age 6; and Ehorah Conway, age 2. (Census reference: Bee Spring district, Edmonson county, Kentucky ED 46 sheet 1A, home 4 family 5) ---------------------- A really confusing factor is that in Edmonson county, there are two Everett Lindsey, both with approximately the same birthdate, and one of them, named Everett C. Lindsey has a wife named Cora where Cora is 3 years older than Everett, first child named Pauline. I also found this family in the 1930 census with children named Pauline, Irene, William, and Ruth. Everett C. Lindsey is age 31 (married at age 18)and Cora A. Lindsey is age 32. (Reference: Bee Springs, Edmonson county, Kentucky ED 11 p. 1B family 13) The burial records of the Sweeden Baptist church seem to indicate that this is the right family because the birthdate of Everett C. is given. It also gives the marriage date as 22 may 1917, but no maiden surname is given for Cora. The other one in the 1930 census is Evrett Lindsey, age 30, wife Lois, age 28, children Elsie, age 7 and Naoma, age 5 (Reference: Brownsville, Edmonson co., Ky, ED 2 p. 2B, family 31) Apparently, both of their fathers were named John W. Lindsey (b. abt 1874). The parents of the first one are: John W. Lindsey and Martha Viola Harrison. The parents of the second one are John W. Lindsey (b. Feb 1873) and Susan --------------------------- Completely different family: Nancy Elizabeth Lindsey, your ID 2331, b. Sept. 1881, d. 29 July 1963 You have her spouse as Martin Wood Lindsey, md. 27 Sept. 1900. You have 6 Lindsey children listed. I think that is a mistake. I think they were divorced, and Nancy Elizabeth married 10 June 1904 James Weldon Vincent. The 1910 census shows James Vincent (age 45) and Bettie(age 27), second marriage for both, having been married 5 years. She states that she has given birth to 5 children, but only 2 are living. The two listed are Elmer Vincent, age 4 and Claudie Vincent, age 2. The others were born later based upon ages in 1910, 1920, and 1930 census records all with surnames of Vincent. I have this for the children: Elmer, b. about 1906 Claude b. abt 1908 Elsie, b. abt 1910 Ellis, b. abt 1913 Howard b. abt May 1917 Altie, b. abt 1923 References: 1910: Durbin, Edmonson Co., Ky, ED 41 sheet 9B home 157 family 161 1920: Durbin, Edmonson Co., Ky, ED 88 sheet 12A, home 237 family 239 1930: Bee Spring, Edmonson Co., Ky, ED 11 sheet 6A, home 107 family 108 ------ I will be away for a week or so, so I will not be able to answer email during that time. |
To: kygal@tampabay.rr.com Subject: Re: KY is my home - Phelps Date: Monday, June 20, 2005 2:40 PM Sue, "Our" William Phelps is not the one you have listed. Most people have the same wrong information. The problem probably occured when earilier researchers were looking for him in Buckingham Co., VA and didn't realize that there were 2 William Phelpses of similar age, living in Buckingham Co., VA during the 1770s. Your information is for the other William. Our William was not originally from Buckingham Co. but lived there for close to a decade before moving to Kentucky during the Rev. War. Our William was the son of John and Margaret Phelps of Goochland Co., VA. I don't know what Margaret's maiden name was. John died in 1747 in Goochland Co., VA. He left a Will naming his wife and three sons... John, Samuel & William. William was the youngest. That portion of Goochland Co. then became the new Cumberland Co. in 1749. I "guesstamate" William's birth ca. 1726 probably in Henrico Co., VA because that is where his folfs lived at that time, before moving to Goochland Co., VA. Also, William's wife was named Sarah not the famous Nancy Nail that most of the Phelpses name as his wife. I have lots of proof of Sarah. And have never been able to find any "proof" of a Nancy Nail except for family folk lore. No records. William and Sarah moved from Cumberland Co. in 1755 and lived in Lunenberg Co. until 1760. From there they moved to Amherst Co., VA. So, if Julian was born in 1762 he would have been born in Amherst Co., VA. His folks didn't move across the James River to Buckingham Co. until 1768. I hope this helps. For copyright purposes, please source or reference my research work in these issues. Thanks. Mary |
