            Rainbo "Lingo"
            Taken from the Book "Rainbo"
            Families of Rainbo Mountain
            Written by
            Judge Farmer Helton

To be able to communicate successfully in RAINBO,
you must have at hand a vocabulary of it's language.
The Appalachian dialect, however, is missing.
The true sons and daughters of the RAINBO
family will always remember the sound and
the many expressions so native to this area.

            REMEMBER ???

Pond your honor! Creepie; Shake hands on it; Oakie-Doakie; Pig in a poke; Before the sun comes up; Dead as a door nail; pretty as a speckled pup; he is obnoxious as a tight wad in a black jack game; he puts his tongue in motion before his brain in gear; one person's trash is another man's treasure; Thar, that's a plenty; slick as a Philadelphia lawyer; good as gold; makes more noise than a kicking mule in a tin barn; that fellow is a snake in the grass; a chip off the ole sage; lies like his Pa; full of baloney; spilt milk; a shot of wine is good for thy stomach's sake and all of thy infirmities; not in a month of Sundays; come up; youins come; pour me a dram of coffee; you swear? he walks like a three legged dog, eats like a pig, stinks like a skunk and truth ain't in him; when she laughs she shakes like a bowl full of jelly; ain't thet a site? he sulks like a possum; beware of another man's tricks; the higher a tree grows the harder it falls; a woman's work is never through; small tales make big lies; up Rainbo Creek without a paddle; my word is my bond; if you feed a preacher chicken, he'll come back; he is a red-blooded, high cheeked, long nosed, pigeoned toed, platted haired American. (An Indian misery loves company) so here I depart; Come Back y'all.
