OTIS HELTON was born 26 July 1926 to JAMES ALLEN HELTON (1889-1974) and SAREPTA SHOEMAKER (1888-1957) of Harlan County, Kentucky. Otis was killed in a Coal Mine on 11 January 1952 in Harlan County, Kentucky. Otis was married to ALICE TURNER and had four children. My mom, Helen Presley Jones, told me that she had heard that on the morning that Otis was killed, he woke his children and wife up to kiss them goodbye. He had never done this before. Alice was kind of cross with him and wanted to know why he had awoken the children. He told Alice that he wouldn't be coming home that evening and wanted to tell his children goodbye. Otis must have had a premonition that he was going to be killed in the mines that day.
