"j-Moyer, Myer, Mayel, Mayer, Mauyer, are spellings of the same name at different times.  Matthias Mates and Margeris are thought to be all one man, named Matthew Myers.  Michel Mayer and Michel Myer are believed to be the same, as is Michel Mayer and Michel Myers, later Major General in the Militia

Tyron Co. Rangers and Exempts. p. 175

"Exempts were men too old for active duty, but were called out in emergencies to repel invasion.  In the battle of Oriskany all were called and it was  not uncommon for father and son to fight side by side.  In several cases three generations were represented.  Rangers were the scouts of the day. They were selected from the militia.  John Frank, a pensioner, says: "the local militia were classed into classes of 8 or 10 and sometimes 15 and each group was required to furnish one man on order of the governor or Committee of Safety ."  They enlisted for 9 months and virtually 'lay out' along the frontier to detect Indian movements.  They were the "eyes of the Army".  They went on foot, subsisted as best they could, and carried the responsibility of protecting the settlement against surprise."

Michael's wife was named Magdelena aka Macdolany or Magdolany. Her last name is unknown at this point.  Her birth was Abt. 1730 in Pennsylvania and she died Aft. 1803. (288)  The children of Michael and Magdelena/Macdolany are listed in Michael's will which was researched by Kim Myers shown below: (291)
