Mrs. L. Tompkins, 82, Dies in Byron Byron - Mrs. La Fayette Tompkins (sic), 82 year old former Kalmar township resident, died early today at the home of her son, LeRoy Tompkins, at Byron. The former Mertie White was born in Othello township July 4, 1867 and was married to Mr. Tompkins October 5, 1892, at Byron. The couple lived on a farm northwest of Byron for nearly fifty years. Mr. Tompkins passed away in 1939, and Mrs. Tompkins moved to her son's home in Byron in 1948 after suffering a stroke and a hip injury. She had lived with LeRoy since then. Survivors include a twin sister, Mrs. Dan Quimby of St. Paul Park; a sister, Mrs. C.T. Webb of Mantorville; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Fox of New Athens, Ill. and three sons, Leon of Mantorville, and Clarence and LeRoy of Byron. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the LeRoy Tompkins home and at 2:30 at the Methodist church. Rev. John Agema will conduct the services and burial will be in the Byron Cemetery.
