Per Anne McGinty Clarke's family legend, John McGinty was the poor Catholic stableboy who worked for the wealthy Protestant parents of Sarah Ritchie. The family does not know if they were married in Ireland or not, but they
had to run to the new world to build a life together. They definately came to the Americas before the potato famine. Ritchies is a lowland Scots surname. Emily Goetz Nieters remembers her Irish ancestors talking about how
Sarah Ritchie regularly rode her horse down the Cascade Road to Green Island (Iowa) to visit people.
