[I think Mary's age may be wrong. She was married when her father died in 1838. It would be possible for her to marry at 16 back then, but then she couldn't be the mother of the first 2 children here. I suppose there could have been a first wife.].2

Elizabeth Norton1
d. after 1792

Father Job Norton b. 19 February 1719/20, d. 21 September 1778
Mother Susannah Olmsted
Pedigree

Last Edited 23 Oct 2006

Elizabeth Norton was the daughter of Job Norton and Susannah Olmsted
Marriage   Elizabeth Norton married William Forbes, son of William Forbes and Elizabeth Olmsted.2
Marriage between 1779 and 1784  Elizabeth Norton married William Warner, son of William Warner and Rebecca Lupton, between 1779 and 1784.1
Death after 1792  Elizabeth Norton died after 1792.1
Note   Why I think Elizabeth Norton wife of William Warner was the Elizabeth Norton who was the daughter of Job Norton and Susannah Olmsted: In the Genealogy of Daniel Owens, it states that Elizabeth Norton, wife of William Warner, was probably the daughter of Thomas and Martha Norton, this Thomas being the son of Thomas Norton and Rebecca Neal. I have several problems with this relationship. First, the Thomas Nortons lived in Saybrook and the Warners lived in Columbia County, NY at the time this marriage would have taken place. Those two places are fairly far apart, and Mr. Owen doesn't give any evidence explaining why a Saybrook girl would end up married to a man in Columbia County. Second, and really a bigger problem to me, is that Elizabeth Norton had seven children with William Warner, and their names don't match up with family names of the Saybrook Nortons. None of the children had a name matching those of the parents, grandparents or siblings of Elizabeth Norton of Saybrook. She did have two uncles named John and Samuel, which were names used in the Warner family, but those are very common names, and why would she name children after uncles and not any closer family members? Finally, I was told that the mother of Elizabeth of Saybrook was a Clark, and pursued the Clark genealogy. In Raeola Cooke's Clark genealogy, a marriage is given for Elizabeth Norton, daughter of Thomas Norton and Martha Clark. Elizabeth married Propser Hubbard in Middletown in 1768.

Then I found another Elizabeth Warner in the Olmstead genealogy, who seems much more likely to me to be the one who married William Warner. Job Norton and Susannah Olmstead had a daughter named Elizabeth who married her first cousin William Forbes and was then widowed. The Olmstead genealogy says that her second husband was named Warner, but unfortunately doesn't divulge the source of that bit of information. I've checked Hartford County probate records for her father, first husband and both grandfathers and not found any clue to it. Now THIS Elizabeth Norton had a brother and a grandfather named John Norton, a brother named Linus and one named Samuel, her other grandfather named James. Those are the names of the four sons of Elizabeth Norton Warner. Linus is a very unusual name, so its use is particularly significant. In addition, the Warners were from Wethersfield, which is in Hartford County, before they moved to New York, and this other Elizabeth Norton was from Hartford. Her father-in-law's mother was a Treat, and William Warner's second wife was a Treat, from Wethersfield. I think it's reasonable that William Warner could have met and married a widow from back home who was related to his deceased wife.3,4,5
