Mother Rebecca ?
Pedigree

Last Edited 10 Sep 2002

Birth circa 1761  Nathan Ward was born circa 1761.2
He was the son of Wells Ward and Rebecca ?
Marriage   Nathan Ward married Sarah Sally ?
Death circa 1835  Nathan Ward died circa 1835 at Grayson County, VA.3
Note   Per GInger Ballard, Ward researcher, there were 2 couples named Nathan and Sarah Ward in Grayson at the same time. The first Nathan died in 1803 and the second in 1835.

Sons of the first, based on his will are Nathan, Enoch, William and Wells. Possible dau Margaret who m Morris Davis.
In 1810 tax list this family is together. Sarah, Wels (noted as "widow's son) and William

In same 1810 tax list are the other Nathan, Stephen, another Wells ("Exempt" which probably meant he was elderly) and another William

My list of children she said, is proven by the 1857 settlement of second Nathan's estate except that document doesn't have a son William. Ginger says that Phillips, who wrote Our Cox Family of Grayson County, included that WIlliam as Nathan's sons, and she has a lot of respect for that research, but she doesn't count William in her list.
The list I sent her of children was Eleanor, Benjamin, Zachariah, Lewis, Enoch, Wells,Stephen, Nathan, Landreth, Silas and William.

Sarah Sally ?1
b. circa 1765, d. after 1850

Last Edited 13 Apr 2002

Birth circa 1765  Sarah Sally ? was born circa 1765.2
Marriage   She married Nathan Ward, son of Wells Ward and Rebecca ?
Death after 1850  Sarah Sally ? died after 1850.
Note   Supposedly full Indian. Per Ginger BAllard, GInger's mother remembered one of this Sarah's grandsons telling her he was one quarter Indian. She said people in Grayson believe her to be Indian.

Ginger also said she was told by someone who did the research that she was the dau of Dragging Canoe of the Cherokee. I'm taking that out of my tree because I've since received some very detailed info on Dragging Canoe. It does have info about a daughter Sarah but there are details about her marrying someone else. So this Sarah is probably Indian but that's all we know of her.

Birth circa 1720  Wells Ward was born circa 1720 at Chesterfield VA.3
Marriage   He married Rebecca ?
Death circa 1821  Wells Ward died circa 1821 at Grayson Co VA.4
Note   Per Ginger Ballard.

In the 1773 militia list for Capt John Montgomery's company there were 4 Wards: Nathan Wells James and Zachariah. After 1773 Zachariah was gone. Ginger figures these are the older Nathan, who died in 1803, Wells who died in 1821, and maybe the James Ward of Wythe County. She thinks that because of the commonality of names used Wells and the older Nathan are brothers. We know this Nathan isn't the son of the other Nathan because this nathan had a son of his own named Nathan who married Anne Williams and moved away. She said several other Ward researchers have developed this theory independently.

Death 1816  Susannah Baker Anderson died in 1816 at Wilkes County, NC.1
Note   WFT vol 11 #3472 has the following note on her.

"Anderson, Capt Patrick, was born 7/24/1719 on a farm on the Pickering Creek, in what is now Schuykil Twp and was the first child of European parents born within the limits of the old twp of Charlestown. He was the s/o James Anderson, a Scotch immigrant and Elizabeth Jerman, d/o Thomas Jerman a noted Quaker preacher and thrifty miller, who settled very early in the Chester Valley. ??brother?? if more connection see 172"
I don't know what this means but it must have been a clue to her parentage.
