Editors: Mrs. William James and Mrs. H. E. Krigbaum
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:
WELCOME to all KRIGBAUM descendants. This is for all of you no matter
how you may spell the name. We have found many different spellings of the name, some of which are
KRIGBAUM, KRIEGBAUM, CRICKBAUM, KRICKBAUM, KREAKBAUM, KREACHBAUM, KREIGHBAUM,
CRITCHPAUMPB. [etc. on the spellings]
All of those names seem to connect up in one way or another. First of all
let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Helen Kay James and I am
your president. About two years ago I decided to try to find out all I could
about my KRIGBAUM ancestors. I knew very little about them and just didn't
know where to start. I called upon the only uncle that I had left and to my
surprise he knew very little about the KRIGBAUM family himself. I then made
a phone call to the residence of Eugene KRIGBAUM since this was the only
other KRIGBAUM in the Quincy, Illinois phone book. To my surprise, Mrs. H. E.
KRIGBAUM had been doing research on the KRIGBAUM family for about the last
ten years. Ever since I made that phone call Carol and I have been doing
research together. In our research we have met many different people and
collected lots of information concerning KRIGBAUMS. We do want to share what
we have learned. We feel that it is important for every one to know their
ancestors. About one year ago Carol and I decided to try and put together a
KRIGBAUM family reunion. We worked on this trying to get as many KRIGBAUMS
together that we could. The reunion was held August 31, 1975 at Center,
Missouri at the Lions Club building. The reunion was a great success. At
this meeting it was decided to start a newsletter and call it "THE KRIEGBAUM
HERITAGE." We do hope you will enjoy the newsletter. It was also decided to
have another reunion next year. We hope that each year will bring more and
more members of the many related families together.
Kay James, President

Fowler, Illinois; and a daughter CASEY MICHELLE KRIGBAUM was born to Mr.

LETTERS:
Dear Mrs. James,
I regret that my duties prevent my attending the 31 August 1975 reunion at
the Lions Club Building, Center, Missouri. I would, however, like to supply
you with the little information that I have concerning my paternal grandfather
FRANKLIN LOUIS KREIGHBAUM in the hopes that it can be forwarded
to one of the KREIGHBAUM families that might be a relative. My grandfather's father
was named HIRAM KRIEGHBAUM [possibly] FRANKLYN
HIRAM]. As far as I can determine he had six [6] children, one a girl named
GOLDIE. It is believed grandfather was married a second time in his later
years to the nurse that was taking care of him. His home was Barberton,
Ohio. He, presumably, was in the coal and wood business in or near,
Barberton. My grandfather FRANKLYN LOUIS KREIGHBAUM was born in Ohio
in the 1880's, joined Company "K" [Infantry], Spanish American War about 1898,
and died at Palo Alto Veteran Hospital in 1949. In approximately 1904 he married KATHERINE
TERESA WALSH at Virginia City, Nevada. They had one son, my father FRANKLYN
HIRAM THOMAS KREIGHBAUM. My grandfather's occupation was that of a cigar
maker.
My father was born in Sacramento, California on [date withheld, living individual?] and married
PAULA RING BRENDEL on 7 July 1940. He served in the 8th Army Air Force in
England for approximately 3.5 years until the end of the war. They had one
son, myself. He is recently retired from the U.S. Postal Service and is living in San Francisco, CA.
Neither my father nor I have had any contact with the KREIGHBAUM side of our
family so information is scarce and very indefinite. The only fragment of
information is that one of my grandfathers brother's son is named ROBERT and
that another son is Dr. ROY KREIGHBAUM. It is believed that the oldest son
is the KREIGHBAUM family had a first name of FRANKLYN [spelling indicates
that it may have been a family name]. It is reputed that this branch of the
family has been in the United States since 1775 when the first KREIGHBAUMS
arrived with mercenary Hessian soldiers sent to put down the revolution. It
is further believed that there has been a FRANKLYN KREIGHBAUM in every
declared war in which the United States has been involved. It would be very interesting
to contact the family after all these years, so
if you would be kind enough to try to put this letter in the hands of
possible relatives I would be most appreciative. Contact can be made through
my father or me. My father can be reached at:
Mr. Franklyn T. Kreighbaum
288 Dellbrook Ave.
San Francisco, CA 94131
Thank you so very much for sending me the announcement for the coming
reunion. It is greatly appreciated. I deeply regret I cannot attend.
Sincerely,
Franklyn B. Kreighbaum, LLT. USAF

We would like to clarify a difference that came up at the reunion about
JACOB VALENTINE KRIGBAUM's first wife, MINERVA. I would like to apologize
because I had the wrong surname on the chart. He married first, MINERVA
TRUE, who had a half sister to his second wife, FANNIE BELL DAVIS.
Their mother, NANCY TREDWAY [dau. of William F. & Perline Eads Tredway]
married [1] James M. True and they had 4 children:
1. Walter E.
2. Mary E.
3. Minerva A.
4. William Griffin
married [2] Leonard DAVIS and they had 3 children:
5. Samuel
6. Fannie Bell
7 Nancy Jane

more about them.

CRICKBAUM [found in early annals as KRICHBAUM. This family intermarried into
the DEVILBISS Family and the name does not occur in church records after the
early 1800's.
Page ____.
The name DEVILBISS occurs in Frederick in Frederick County church and civil
records beginning about 1745. The original immigrants who arrived from the
Rhine region on the ship "BRITANIA" Sept. 21, 1731, landing at
Philadelphia. Their names were Michael, George, and Casper, the latter under
16. The two settled in Frederick County, one in Pennsylvania, the latter
branch spelling the name DEVILBELBISS. Other spellings are Teufelbiss
probably the original; DEVILBISS, DEVIL, TEUFEL, DIVILBISS. Casper seems to
be the ancestor of most of Frederick County members of the family, his
grandson Alexander going to Ohio in 1821 and found the town of Alexandri.
Mr. Thomas DEVILBISS of Fort Wayne, Indiana, has compiled a partial history
of the family, treating mostly of the Ohio branch.
The following was taken from passenger lists of immigrants arriving in
America. This was taken from the book THIRTY THOUSAND NAMES OF IMMIGRANTS BY
