JAMES EVERETT LEAMEY

III. JAMES EVERETT was born August 14, 1899 in Eureka, Humboldt County, California and died September 18, 1989 in Palo Alto, Santa Clara County, California. He was the son of James Andrew Leamey and Sarah Glatt .

"Jim is the youngest of the three children and the only son. Should have been spoiled rotten but he is just the opposite. Has always wanted the other person to have first choice, or their say.
His friends called him Jim but I always called him Jimmy.
He worked in the post office for thirty-five years. He was Postal Supervisor when he retired. He was one person who looked forward to retirement and never for a moment wanted to work at a regular job again. He has been retired now for 23 years and still enjoying yard work and some work shops work that he is still able to do. Because his leg is weak from loss of cartliage at rt. knee-he can no longer fly fish. All of his life this has been his favorite of all sports."
(Alma Leamey-1976)

Jimmy also served during World War I, but only briefly. He did not go oversees. He also worked for the railroad and would often travel to Sparks, Washoe County, Nevada.

ALMA KIRSTEN (BACH) BECK

ALMA KIRSTEN BECK was born May 7, 1901 in Ferndale, Humboldt County, California and died November 18, 1996 in San Mateo County. She was the daughter of Rasmus Bach and Maria Jansen .

"After graduating from Ferndale High School, I graduated from Eureka Business College as Jimmy did, but we did not meet there.

My favorite pastime was dancing and I vowed I would never marry anyone who didn't like dancing--I did! We did belong to dancing clubs and Jimmy tolerated them.

I learned to fish and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Did office work for several years and then decided to do something that I could be in charge of. Took up Beauty Work and opened a Beauty Shop. Did very well. During World War II had four operators, a desk girl and our full time housekeeper. It was very hard work, but I enjoyed the people and the challange of running a business.

When I was in my late forties I started going over to Humboldt State College to take up art. From then on there was nothing I wanted to do more than to paint.

A group of us later, with the help of four art professors, formed a painting group known as "The She Painters". We painted for many exhibits."

MARRIED LIFE

James and Alma married on April 10, 1924 in Ukiah, California. Together they had one son:

I. Roy James was born December 10, 1928 in Eureka, Humboldt County, California and died March 16, 1983 in Santa Cruz, California.

"December 20, 1979
Up to now, we have had roots, so now we start the trunk of the tree--
I expected a Gloria Jean but when Roy James arrived, would not have changed for a dozen Gloria Jeans. Since I was working, Jimmy and I vied for our chance to hold him during the lunch hour.

At about six months, Drs. gave us a great scare; thought he might have hydnocephalus. The d. said "My God he has got to be a priest or a president". We rushed to San Francisco to a specialist. Lucky the Doctor said he just thought we had an extra bright baby and to go home and enjoy him. The large head caused the concern.

Roy was a number one student in the lower grades. He did not work to capacity in the higher grades. He was always quick with the dry wit, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

From a very early age, his hobby was cars. It was really a passion with him and for a time worried that he might drop out of college because he was so anxious to turn his hobby into immediate business. One of his high school teachers said that given a pair of skates, he would soon parly them into a car."
(Alma Leamey-1979)

Roy James Leamey met and married HELEN LEONA JACOBSON.
