FAMILY

The Jacobson family is on my mother's paternal side, originating from Sweden. I have quite a bit of information available thanks to three wonderful people in Canada. Penny, who without her resilience in seeking out my relatives, I wouldn't have gotten as far as I have. And to Jim, my "long lost" cousin who Penny contacted initially, I thank him for bringing me a wealth of information through his mother, my 2nd cousin Doris. Doris has been a real "trooper" and helping me out with information on the family even though she has been ill. I'm so happy to have met her on the phone and through "snail mail". These are three continuing friendships I hope that will remain. Thank you Penny, Jim and Doris for all of your help!
The Free Land Act of 1872 was passed by the Canadian Government and people migrated to the Provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Quite a few settlers came from Minnesota as did the Jacobsons because land could be purchased for a filing fee of $10.00 and, in Minnesota there wasn't any room for growth for a small farm. I'm not sure at this time if the Jacobsons were able to purchase land, as they were a very poor family working the land that was owned by the Lundblads in Calmar. My mother recalls that her grandfather and possibly his brothers occupied three corners of the Lunblad's property with their own homes and family and the owner occupied the fourth corner.

CHARLIE JACOBSON was born March 20, 1869 in Varmland, Sweden, and died July 14, 1934 in Calmar, Alberta Canada. It is thought by family members, that Charlie was adopted and took the surname Jacobson.
FREDRIKA "FREDA" ALBERTINA SANBERG was born April 03, 1874 in Sweden, and died July 31, 1936 in Calmar, Alberta, Canada.
JULIA CLARINDA JACOBSON was born January 09, 1897, Iowa and died February 11, 1975.
EDITH REGINA JACOBSON was born September 07, 1898 and died April 06, 1899.
ERNEST WILHELM JACOBSON was born December 30, 1899, Minnesota and died May 20, 1979.
CARL EDWIN JACOBSON was born December 17, 1901, Shelby Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota and died June 03, 1982, Prescott, Yavapai County, Arizona
LAURA SYLVIA JACOBSON was born October 08, 1903, Fernintosh County, Alberta, Canada and died August 31, 1977.
ALMA ELVIRA JACOBSON was born October 30, 1906 and died January 02, 1981.
WALTER HERBERT JACOBSON was born July 21, 1908 and died 1967, Calmar, Alberta, Canada.
LEON HERMAN JACOBSON was born November 17, 1910 and died January 10, 1929.
CLARA VIOLA JACOBSON was born October 17, 1913 and died March 12, 1984.
BERT VERNER JACOBSON was born August 08, 1916 and died in 1986.
