DATE 1812
PLAC Served as a Sgt. during War of 1812[Broderbund WFT Vol. 3, Ed. 1, Tree #2476, Date of Import: Aug 2, 1997]
Caleb McDaniel was the second child of Henry McDaniel and Hannah Bryan. He was born on September 28, 1790, in Greenbrier County, Virginia (Now Monroe County, West Virginia). He died in Walnut
Township, Gallia County, Ohio, on October 20, 1874. He married Martha (Patsy) Williams in Gallia County, Ohio, on September 14, 1811.
Caleb McDaniel enlisted during the War of 1812 at Gallipolis, Ohio, on August 16, 1851. He was discharged at Maumee, Ohio at Fort Meigs on February 9th, 1813. He served as a Sergeant under the
command of Captain Isaac Butler's Company in the Second Regiment commanded by Colonel Robert Safford.
In 1851, he applied for Bounty Lands, and on August 16, 1851, he received a patent and warranty for 80 acres located on the East half of the South West quarter of section 36 in Township 6 of Range 17
in the District of Lands. On March 30, 1855, he again applied for land under the act which granted additional land to officers.
Pensions were granted to War of 1812 Veterans in an Act of Congress dated February 14, 1871, and that same year he applied for a pention under that same act.
The Anna Simmerman papers in the Library in Gallipolis, Ohio, lists the following as children of Caleb McDaniel and Martha Williams: 1. John
2. Betsy 3. Rev. William. The Lawrence County 1850 Census lists some additional children, i.e.: 4. Polly age 22 and 5. Michael age 17. There were probably other children.
In the 1870 Census Caleb McDaniel was listed as 79 years old and he was living with his grandson Charles W. Jones (son of Elizabeth or Betsy
McDaniel).
Since Caleb McDaniel was living in Symmes Township, Lawrence County, Ohio in the 1850 Census, and his son John married Celia Laffoon on September 17, 1835, in Lawrence County, Ohio, and he settled
there, it is probable that the following five marriages that occurred in Lawrence County, Ohio, were marriages that involved possible children of Caleb McDaniel:
James McDaniel married Betsy Tosser October 27, 1828
Eliza McDaniel married Lewis Nelson April 19, 1832
Alexander McDaniel married Katherine Halterman Jan. 30 1833
Daniel McDaniel married Isabella Wilson Dec. 19, 1835
Foster McDaniel married Elizabeth Jones Dec. 6, 1838
There were three other marriages in Lawrence County, Ohio that involved a Daniel McDaniel:
Daniel McDaniel married Frances Wilson Dec. 29, 1858
Daniel McDaniel married Susan Miller Aug. 2, 1863
Daniel McDaniel married Ann Williams No date
The Daniel McDaniel who married Susan Miller was probably the son of John McDaniel, a grandson of Caleb McDaniel. Two of the three above Daniel McDaniels served in the Civil War.
1813 Discharged at Maumee, Ohio
1871 Rec. Pension for service in War of 1812
