homesteaded in Cheyenne Co., NE, near Ogallah soon after they were married. They
built a sod house, in which their three children were born and lived until 1895
when they moved to Horton, Brown Co., Kansas to farm. I have not found them on
the 1900 census at this time, but they are listed on the 1910 census Mission Twp.

son Elbert entered the army, during World War I. The family moved to New York,

Beatrice, Gage Co., NE. In 1920 & 1930 her occupation was listed as Dressmaker.
Lula Reid Tatum died sometime after 1930, probably in Beatrice, Gage Co., NE. Notes for Lula L. Reid Tatum | |
| 8. Harriet Reid | Harriett "Hattie" Reid was born
in 1875 in NE. Warren Reid's book states that she was born in Waukon, Iowa,
but the 1880 & 1885 census both list her birthplace as Nebraska. She is listed
with her parents as Hattie, age 4, on the 1880 census of Blakely, Gage Co., NE.
Her father shot and killed her mother on July 22, 1882, and was sent to prison
until April 1891. Hattie is listed on the 1885 state census of Blakely, Gage Co.,
NE in the household of her married brother James M. Reid. I have not been able
to find her on any census records after 1885, but according to Warren Reid's book
Harriet was a dress designer for a number of years in Marcellus, N.Y., near Syracuse.
She did not marry. Harriett Reid died on June 11, 1938 at the home of her sister
Ella Martha (Reid) and Andrew J. Thompson, who were residing with their son Elbert
and Madge (Stirton) Thompson in New York. |
