William
Reid II was born May 7, 1802 in North Shenango, Crawford Co., PA. He was the son
of William Reid & Mary Boyd Brannan
Sarah Cline Bennett was born July 31, 1811 in Pennsylvania. She was the daughter
of Henry Bennett & Eleanor C. Thompson

Reid II married Sarah Cline Bennett in 1830 in Pennsylvania and they had 13 children.
The family is listed on the 1840 & 1850 censuses of North Shenango, Crawford
Co., PA, and they moved to Iowa in 1854. The will of Henry Bennett, signed in
1856 and probated 1859 lists daughter Sarah C. Read as an heir. William &
Sarah are listed with their family on the 1860, 1870 & 1880 censuses of Hanover
Twp., Allamakee Co., IA. They are listed on the 1885 state census of Riverside,
Fremont Co., IA, where son Zenas had settled with his family. Sarah Cline Bennett
Reid died on September 18, 1887 in Randolph, Fremont Co., Iowa. William died
on January 26, 1892 in (probably Fremont Co.,) Iowa. They are both buried in the
Tabor, Fremont Co., Iowa cemetery. |

| 1.William H. Reid | William Henry Reid was born on
July 08, 1831 in Crawford Co., PA. He is listed with his parents on the 1850
census of North Shenango, Crawford Co., PA. He moved with his parents to Iowa
about 1855. William Henry married Catherine Eells in 1856 in Allamakee
Co., IA and they had 8 children. The family is listed on the 1860 census Hanover
Twp. Allamakee Co., IA. The family moved from Iowa to Nebraska sometime between
1871 to 1875, and they are listed on the 1880 census of Blakely, Gage Co., NE.
William shot and killed Catherine on July 22, 1882 at their daughter's
home near Hoag, Gage Co., NE. Family story is that Catherine had decided to leave
William because he was abusive. Although sentenced in March 1884 to serve ten
years in the Nebraska State Penitentary, William served seven years and one month
as inmate #734, being released April 10, 1891. Williaim Reid III died on November

| 2.Matilda Reid | Matilda Reid was born about 1833 in Crawford Co.,
PA. She is listed with her parents on the 1850 census of North Shenango, Crawford
Co., PA. She moved with her parents to Iowa about 1855, and she is listed as a
living in the household of Robert Weir on the 1860 census of Union Prairie, Allamakee
Co., IA. At that time she was age 27, and her occupation was listed as seamstress.
According to Warren Reid's book, Matilda was a schoolteacher in Allamakee Co.,
IA, and "according to family tradition" married a son of the Weir
family. I have not found her at this time on the 1870 or any later census.
Matilda Reid Weir died sometime after 1860, but I don't know when or where

| 3.Zenas Reid | Zenas Reid was born on August 28, 1836 in Crawford
Co. PA. He is listed with his parents on the 1850 census of North Shenango,
Crawford Co., PA. He moved with his parents to Iowa about 1855, and is listed
with them at age 24 on the 1860 census of Hanover Twp., Allamakee Co., IA. Zenas
married Emeline Monroe Taylor on August 24, 1866 and they had 3 children.
Two sons died young and are buried in the Tabor Cemetery in Fremont Co., IA. Zenas
& Emeline are listed with no children on the 1870 census Hanover Twp., Allamakee
Co., IA. A daughter, Ettie, is listed with them at age 6 on the 1880 census of
Randolph, Fremont, IA. Zenas, Emeline & Ettie are listed on the 1885 state
census of Riverside, Fremont Co., IA. Zenas Reid died on October 19, 1893,
probably in Fremont Co., IA. Emeline died on February 12, 1925. Both are buried

| 4.Robert Reid | Robert Reid was born about 1837 in Crawford Co., PA. He is listed with his parents on the 1850 census of North Shenango, Crawford Co., PA. He moved with his parents to Iowa about 1855, and he is listed with them at age 22 on the 1860 census of Hanover Twp., Allamakee Co., IA. According to Warren Reid's book, Robert never married. I have not found Robert on the 1870 or any later census at this time. Robert Reid died sometime after 1860, but I don't know when or where. | |
| 5.Mary Reid | Mary Reid was born about 1839 in Crawford Co., PA.
She is listed with her parents on the 1850 census of North Shenango, Crawford
Co., PA. She moved with her parents to Iowa about 1855. Mary married William
H. Hancock about 1860 in Iowa, and they had 2 sons. The family is listed on
the 1860 & 1870 censuses of Makee Twp, Allamakee Co., IA. In 1860 William's
occupation is listed as Butcher, and in 1870 it is listed as Cattle Buyer. Mary
& William divorced sometime between 1870 to 1880, and Mary is listed as divorced
with the children on the 1880 census of Postville, Allamakee, IA. At that time
her occupation was listed as dressmaker. Mary moved to Wisconsin sometime between

| 6.Margaret Reid | Margaret A. Reid was born about 1841
in Crawford Co., PA. She is listed with her parents on the 1850 census of
North Shenango, Crawford Co., PA. She moved with her parents to Iowa about 1855,
and is Margaret is listed with them at age 18 on the 1860 census of Hanover Twp.,
Allamakee Co., IA. At that time her occupation was listed as teacher. Margaret
married Mr. Nicholson about 1861. On the 1870 census an 8 year old granddaughter
named Margaret Nicholson is living with William & Sarah Reid. She is also
living with them in 1880. I have not found Margaret Reid Nicholson on the 1870
or any later census records at this time. Margaret A. Reid Nicholson died sometime

| 7.Sarah J. Reid | Sarah Jane Reid was born In Feb. 1844 in Crawford
Co., PA. She is listed with her parents on the 1850 census of North Shenango,
Crawford Co., PA. She moved with her parents to Iowa about 1855, and is listed
with them on the 1860 census of Hanover Twp., Allamakee Co., IA. Sarah married
Marshall Augustus Bailey December 10, 1868 at her parents home, and they
are listed on the on the 1870 census of Makee Twp., Allamakee Co., IA, living
with William & Mary (Reid) Hancock. At that time Marshall's occupation was
listed as teamster. Marshall & Sarah had at least 7 children. Based on birth
places of their children, they lived in Minnesota in 1872 & 1874, but then
returned to Iowa by 1876. The family is listed on the 1880 census of Waukon, Allamakee
Co., IA, with Marshall's occupation listed as Constable. They were in Iowa through
1881, but had children born in Nebraska in 1886 & 1887. Marshall about died
sometime between 1887 to 1900, and the family also moved either before or after
his death to South Dakota. Sarah is listed as widowed on the 1900 census of Twp
95 Range 68, Gregory Co., SD. She is listed on the 1910 census of 2nd Ward Fairfax,
Gregory Co., SD. At that time she is listed as having 9 births with 7 surviving
children. Her daughter Lottie is living with her in 1910 and listed as age 38,
single, occupation County Superintendent. She is listed at age 76 in the household
of her son Ben on the 1920 census of Dickens, Gregory Co., SD. Sarah Jane Reid

| 8.James K. Reid | James Knox Polk Reid was born April
23, 1846 in Crawford Co., PA. He is listed with his parents on the1850 census
of North Shenango, Crawford Co., PA. He moved with his parents to Iowa about 1855,
and is listed with them at age 14 on the 1860 census of Hanover Twp., Allamakee
Co., IA. James married Mary E. Schwartz on Mar 9, 1867, and Warren Reid's
book states that they had 2 children although I have not found names for them.
James & Mary are listed on the 1870 census of Post Twp., Allamakee Co., IA.
Mary died sometime between 1870-1879, and James was remarried to Alice A. Fauver
on May 5, 1880 (one document indicates 1879), and they had one son named Clyde.
James & Alice are listed on the 1880 census of Niobrara, Knox, NE living in
the household of Alice's father, Samuel Fauver. According to Warren Reid's book,
James lived in Johnstown, Brown Co., NE till 1892 when he moved to Gregory County,
SD. The family is listed on the 1900 census of Twp 95, Gregory Co., SD. At that
time they are listed as being married 21 years, with Alice having 1 birth &
1 surviving child, and James' occupation listed as Farmer.Warren's book goes on
to state that James & Alice moved from South Dakota to Washington State before
removing to Sheridan, Wyoming. I find the family on the 1910 census of South Lynden,
Whatcom Co., Washington. They are listed on the 1920 census of Wyola, Big Horn,
Montana. James' occupation is listed as Blacksmith on the 1880 census, Farmer
on the 1900 & 1920 censuses, and Carpenter, Houses, on the 1910 census. James
Knox Polk Reid died on February 16, 1921 in Sheridan, Wyoming. There is another
unrelated James Knox Polk Reed who is living in Bellingham, Whatcom, Washington
in 1900 & 1910 with wife Catarina. This James Knox Polk Reed was also born
in Pennsylvania in 1845, and both families are living in Whatcom Co., Washington
in 1910 which has caused some confusion in researching this family. Thanks to

| 9.Nancy Reid | Nancy Reid was born Feb 14, 1846 in Crawford County, PA. She is listed with her parents as Nancy E., age 4 on the 1850 census of North Shenango, Crawford Co., PA. She died later that same year. Nancy Reid died on Oct 29, 1850 in Crawford Co., PA. She is buried next to her grandparents, William and Mary Boyd (Brannan) Reid in the Willson Cemetery Plot 121, approximately two miles southwest of Espyville, Shenango Township, Crawford County, PA. | |
| 10.Victoria Reid | Victoria Reid was born about 1848 in Crawford County, PA. She is listed with her parents at age 2 on the 1850 census of North Shenango, Crawford Co., PA. She is not listed with them on the 1860 census. I assume Victoria Reid died before the age of 12, in PA or IA. | |
| 10.Emma J. Reid | Emma Josephine Reid was born born
Aug 25, 1850 in Crawford Co., PA. She moved with her parents to Iowa about
1855, and is listed with them on the 1860 & 1870 censuses of Hanover Twp.,
Allamakee Co., IA. Emma taught school in Allamakee County prior to her marriage.
Emma married Oscar Burtis Lambert on March 26, 1878 at the home of her
parents and they had 4 children. Oscar & Emma moved from Iowa to Dakota Territory,
where they settled on homestead land. They are listed on the 1880 & 1900 censuses
of Township 103, Minnehaha, Dakota Territory (later SD). They moved to Gregory
Co., SD in 1902. They are listed on the 1910 & 1920 censuses of Fairfax, Gregory
Co., SD. Oscar died on Feb. 5, 1926. Emma is listed as widowed and head of household
on the 1930 census of Fairfax, Gregory Co., SD. Emma Josephine Reid Lambert
died on May 10, 1936. According to Warren Reid's book, Oscar & Emma both
died in Lynch, Boyd Co, NE and are buried in the Highland Cemetery, Fairfax (Gregory

| 11 Eleanor Reid | Eleanor Reid was born about 1853 in Crawford Co., PA. She moved with her parents to Iowa about 1855. I assume she is the daughter who is listed at age 7 with her parents on the 1860 census of Hanover Twp., Allamakee Co., IA, although the first name the census taker wrote is difficult to make out. (Linir?) According to Warren Reid's book, Eleanor married a Mr. Morrell. They lived in Minnesota and later in Oregon. Eleanor Reid Morrell died in Medford (Jackson County), OR. I have not been able to find Eleanor on any census record after 1860 at this time. | |
| 12.John Reid | John Bennett Reid was born on May
18, 1854 in Crawford Co., PA. He moved with is parents to Iowa about 1855,
and is listed with them on the 1860 & 1870 censuses of Hanover Twp., Allamakee
Co., IA. John married Margaret "Maggie" Reily on Nov 11, 1876
in Waukon, Allamakee Co., IA, and they had 13 children. The family is listed on
the 1880 census of Hanover, Allamakee Co., IA. The family moved by covered wagon
to Sioux Falls, Dakota Territory in 1882, where John lost a herd of registered
Durham cattle in the blizzard of 1888. The family is listed on the 1900 census
of Pierre, Stanley Co., SD. They are listed on the 1910 census of Twp 10 North,
Range 16 East, Meade, Co., SD with John's occupation listed as Merchant, own grocery
store. At some time between 1910 to 1920 they moved to Montana, and they are listed
on the 1920 census of Cohagen, Garfield, Co., MT, with John's occupation listed
as proprietor of a hotel & store. They then returned to South Dakota, and
they are listed on the 1930 census of Township 10 (Faith), Meade Co., SD with
John's occupation listed as farmer. John Bennett Reid died on March 7, 1941
in Faith, Meade Co., SD. Margaret died May 11, 1946. Both are buried in the
Faith Cemetery. |
