| William Reid & Mary Boyd Brannan | William
Reid & Mary Boyd Brannan were married on June 14, 1783 in the St. Michael's
Lutheran Church, Cumberland Co., PA, and they had 8 children. According to
a biography of William by descendant Arlene Adkins, following their marriage William
& Mary "migrated from Cumberland County to Pittsburg, then to Westmoreland
County. They then migrated back to earlier gone area in Cumberland Co. Their daughter
Margaret (born 1784) was born during this period. In 1786 and 1787 they were in
the region of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. This was in the Allegheny
River area. They migrated back and forth along the West Branch in Northumberland
County, hence to the Allegheny River area." There is a family on the 1790
census of Northumberland Co., PA headed by William Reed with numbers that would
fit the known children for this family "In 1798 they settled in Crawford
County, Pennsylvania. In a letter from his brother James, William's address was
Heart's Crossroads. He contracted for two hundred acres, tract 781 Pennsylvania
Popiltion Land district, S. Shenango, Pennsylvania. He transferred his Revolutionary
War Discharge to William Green for the purpose of patenting land. The date of
the transfer was not given." There is a William Reed household with numbers
that would fit this family on the 1800 census of Meadville, Crawford Co., PA.
They are listed on the 1810, 1820, 1830 &1840 censuses of Shenango, Crawford
Co., PA. Starting in 1830 the town is listed as North Shenango. William is listed

Crawford Co., PA. William died on February 11, 1845 and Mary died on October
14, 1850, both in North Shenango Township, Crawford County, PA. They are buried
there in the Wilson Cemetery. I do not find Mary on the 1850 census, but the census
for North Shenango Twp that year was taken October 17-22, 1850 so they may not
have listed her since she had just died. |

| Mary Reid #2 | Mary Reid #2 was born between. 1795 - 1798 in Pennsylvania.
There is a female the right age group to be Mary, age 2-5, in the household of
William Reed on the 1800 census of Meadville, Crawford Co., PA. There is a female
the right age group to be Mary in the household of William Reed on the 1810 (age

Daniel Smith. There is also a female in the household of William Reid in
1820 that is under age 10 that I have not identified. It is possibly that Mary
Reid Smith and a young daughter are living with her parents in 1820. The daughter
is age 5-10 and again living with William Reid in 1830, but there is no female
in the household the age to be Mary Reid Smith. Mary Reid Smith died sometime

the family moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio about 1836. They are listed on the

1848 are all listed on later census records as being born in Ohio. According to
Warren Reid's book, Anne died in October 1842 and James remarried Nancy.
The 1850 census shows James and wife Ann (age 41, b. PA) living with the children
in Pierpont, Ashtabula Co., OH, so I question the 1842 death date. Ann did die
sometime between 1850 to 1860 (possibly October 1852?), and James remarried Nancy,
who was born about 1818 in KY. In 1854, either before or after Ann's death and
his remarriage, James moved from Ohio to Iowa with his family and also his younger
brother William's family. James & Nancy are listed on the 1860, 1870 &
1800 censuses of Union Prairie, Allamakee Co., IA. In 1860 there is a son named
George in the household who is listed as being born about 1853 in New Jersey that
may be a son of this marriage or a son of Nancy's from a previous marriage. James
& Nancy did have a son about 1863 who is called Amos in 1870 and James in
1880. James Reid died in October 1882 in Allamakee Co., IA. Notes for James Reid | |
