Samuel Isaac Jones & Rebecca Pethoud

Samuel Isaac Jones married Rebecca Pethoud on December 18, 1845 in Lawrence Co., OH and they had 14 children. According to birth dates of their children, the family lived in Lawrence & Gallia Co., Ohio until 1855 when they moved to Westport, Jefferson, Missouri. They stayed there 6 months, but then moved on to Grasshopper (now Valley) Falls Kansas. They had a child born in Kansas in July 1857, but then moved to Nebraska about in September 1857. The family settled on Indian (Austin) Creek, four miles north of Beatrice, Gage, Nebraska. They are listed on the 1860 & 1870 censuses of Beatrice, Gage Co., Nebraska. Samuel Jones died on February 08, 1872 in Gage Co., Nebraska. He was age 42, and the local newspaper reported cause of death as "softening of the brain". He is buried in the Austin Creek Cemetery, NE 1/4 Sec 15, Midland Township, Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska. After Samuel's death Rebecca moved to Gooding, Idaho to live with her children. According to newspaper reports, she died on December 22, 1901, although her gravestone says 1902. Rebecca died in Gooding Co., Idaho at the home of her daughter Libby (Elizabeth) Dwyer, and she is buried there. Children of Samuel Isaac Jones & Rebecca Pethoud were: William Riley (1846), Mary Jane (1848), James (1849), Thomas (1849), John Thompson (1851), Sarah Ann (1853), Samuel Isaac (1854), Francis Marion (1857), Alvin Plummer (1859), Charles Augustus (1862), Leroy Clark (1864), Helen Weston (1866), Elizabeth Maria (1867) & Rebecca Alice (1869) Jones. William Riley Jones was born on September 9, 1846 in Lawrence Co., Ohio. I have not found his parents on the 1850 census at this time, but they had children born in 1849 & 1851 in Gallipolis, Gallia Co., Ohio. The family moved from Ohio to Missouri in 1855, from Missouri to Kansas in late 1855 or early 1856, and from Kansas to Nebraska in September 1857. William is listed at age 13 with his parents on the 1860 census of Beatrice, Gage Co., Nebraska. William Riley married Hester Ann Henton on Septembere 14, 1866 in Beatrice, Gage Co., Nebraska. William Riley & Hester had 10 children. The family is listed on the 1870, 1880, 1885, 1900, 1910 & 1920 censuses of Beatrice, Gage Co., Nebraska. In both 1900 & 1910, Hester is listed as having 10 births with 6 surviving. William Riley's occupation is listed as Farmer in 1870 & 1880, as Implement Dealer in 1900, as Poultry Dealer in 1910 and as Poultry Buyer, County, in 1920. William Riley Jones died on December 30, 1925 in Beatrice, Gage Co., Nebraska. Death notices at the time stated that he had died after a lingering illness following a stroke of paralysis. The articles said he was formerly Sheriff of Gage County, and that at one time he was prominent in Democratic politics in the county. Hester died on July 26, 1930, also in Beatrice. William Riley & Hester are both buried in the Austin Cemetery, Midland (Beatrice), Gage Co., Nebraska.

I have not found her parents on the 1850 census at this time, but they had children born in 1849 & 1851 in Gallipolis, Gallia Co., Ohio. The family moved from Ohio to Missouri in 1855, from Missouri to Kansas in late 1855 or early 1856, and from Kansas to Nebraska in September 1857. Mary is listed at age 12 with her parents on the 1860 census of Beatrice, Gage Co., Nebraska. Mary married James Allen Poole about 1866, probably in Gage Co., Nebraska, and they had 12 children. The family is listed on the 1870 census of Gage Co., Nebraska. I have not found them in 1880. James & Mary are listsed on the 1900 census of Canyonville, Douglas, Oregon and on the 1910 census of Edgewood, Siskiyou Co., California. In 1900 Mary is listed as having 12 births with 5 surviving, and in 1910 she is listed as having 10 births with 5 surviving. James Poole died in 1912 in Yreka, California. Mary Jane Jones Poole died on May 6, 1917 in Riddle, Douglas Co., Oregon.

He is listed on the 1920 & 1930 censuses of Gooding, Gooding Co., Idaho, both in the household of his married sister John & Elizabeth (Jones) Dwyer. John Thompson Jones died on July 4, 1938 in Gooding, Gooding Co., Idaho.

Francis "Frank" Marion JonesFrancis "Frank" Marion Jones was born on July 31, 1857 in Grasshopper (Valley) Falls, Kansas. The family moved from Kansas to Nebraska in September 1857 when he was about 2 months old. Frank married Evalina "Eva" Thompson about 1881 in Nebraska. Frank & Eva were first cousins, as Frank's father Samuel & Eva's mother Evaline were siblings, both children of William Jones & Jane. Frank & Eva had at least 4 children. Francis "Frank" Marion Jones died on June 29, 1889 in Beatrice, Gage, Nebraska, and Eva is living in Beatrice and listed as age 44 and widowed on the 1900 census. She moved from Nebraska to Idaho sometime between 1900 to 1910, and she is listed on the 1910 census of Gooding, Lincoln Co., Idaho. At that time she is listed as having 4 births and 4 surviving children, although only 3 are living with her at the time. Eva moved from Idaho to Colorado between 1910 to 1920. She is listed on the 1920 census of Denver, Denver Co., CO listed as a servant in the household of Alex K. Marr from Scotland. An article on May 4, 1922 in the DeWitt (Nebraska) Times-News states that "Mrs. Jones, Gooding, Idaho was visiting her sisters: Mrs. E. Rossiter, Mrs. J.M. Joyce and Mrs. James Reed. She was an early resident of Beatrice". I'm not sure why she was listed in the article as being from Idaho in 1922, unless she returned there for a short time. Warren Reid's book lists Eva living in Denver, Colorado in 1926. I have not found Eva on the 1930 census at this time.

The family is listed on the 1900 census of Toponis, Lincoln Co., Idaho; at that time Charles' widowed mother Rebecca was living with them. I have not found the family on the 1910 census at this time. Charles Augustus Jones died on May 1, 1916 in Gooding, Gooding, Idaho. Katie is listed with the children on the 1920 census of Boise, Ada, Idaho.

Leroy Clark Jones died on June 3, 1939 in Gooding, Gooding Co., Idaho. He is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery, Gooding, Gooding, Idaho.
