Dear Friend
I
arrived home safe and sound. I was delayed on the cars a short time But got to
Peter Warehams the second day after leaving you-Found everybody well- Silas Warehams
wife died in May. All the rest were well. I staid there about a week. Had a very
pleasant time. From there I went to Wm Smiths (2) found all of his folks well.
Wms health is better than has been at any time since his sickness. Since then
I have been visiting several old friends. At present I am at Philip Bakers (1).
And I think I shall stay here most of the winter. Times are quite hard all through
this country. The crops were small. Potatoes were no crop at all. But we have
plenty to eat. More than many of the people of the United states have-We hear
of such hard times in all of the cities. So many men thrown out of employment.
I have heard that there were many men thrown out of employment in your city. When
you write let me know and how they manage to live. I pity the poor. We are having
winter here. Not enough snow for sleighing but enough to make the roads bad.
My health remains the same as while at your place. I have no news to write you
of any consequence. But would like to have you write to me and give me all the
news. Give my best regards to all send your letters to me at Franklin.
