DEATH RECORD - 7/1/1890 ,
Nicholas R. Stephens
An aged and respected citizen of Altoona died of Bright's disease, yesterday morning at his residence, No. 1800 Fourth avenue. Mr. Stephens was aged 73 years, 5 months and 25 days, having been born near Hollidaysburg, then in Huntingdon county, on the 5th of January, 1817. At the breaking out of the war of the rebellion he responded to the call made for troops for the defense of his country and enlisted in Company H, Third Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. At the expiration of his term of service he returned
home, when he re-enlisted-in the construction corps, and served one year. He leaves seven children and one sister. The names of the children are : Thomas J., of GaIlitzin, Cambria county ; William H., Joseph H., Samuel, John N. and Jas. M. Stephens and Mrs. Mary R. Conroy, all residing in Altoona. Mrs.Eliza Hoover, of Greenwood Furnace. Huntingdon, county, is a sister of the deceased. Mr. Stephens was also the grandfather of fifty children, thirty-nine of whom are living. The deceased was a consistent member of the Lutheran church for many years. The funeral will leave his late residence at 2 o'clock to morrow afternoon, and proceed to the First Lutheran church, where
services will be conducted by his pastor. At their conclusion the interment will made in Oak RidgeCemetery.

Eliza died February 24, 1893
