Letter January 1853 | Letter from David Curry
in Blair Co., PA to Nicholas & Ruth Stephens & family in (probably Benton
Co.), Iowa. Nicholas had emigrated from Pennsylvania to Iowa about 1850, and is
on the 1850 census of Linn Co., IA and the 1852 census of Benton Co., IA. This
letter indicates that Nicholas did not prosper in Iowa, and that David was encouraging
the family to return to Pennsylvania in Spring 1853. Nicholas & family returned

July celebration there. William who is mentioned in the letter is a brother of
Ruth & Susanna. William & Susanna Curry are listed on the 1870 & 1880
censuses of Clinton, Clinton Co., Iowa, and in 1880 they are both listed as single
and Susanna is listed as being William's sister. The last page of the letter lists
birthdates of Ruth Curry and her siblings, but William & Susanna are not on
the list. | |
