Maria Krug was born on October 16, 1820 in Neuses, Mittlefranken, Bavaria, Germany.
Maria married John George Schrotberger in 1848 in probably Wallersdorf,
Bavaria, Germany. According to family story, they came to America "on
their honeymoon" to Kane County IL and then to Kendall County IL. I have
not found them on the 1850 US census at this time. A land patent in Grundy Co.,
IL was issued to John George Schrotberger in 1853. In 1856 they located in Goodfarm
Twp, Grundy County IL, 4 mi NE of Dwight, Livingston Co., IL. John and Maria had
8 children. Four of their children married children of John Leonard & Julia
(Sorg) Meier. John & Maria are on the 1860, 1870 & 1880 censuses of Goodfarm,
Grundy Co., IL. Maria died on Oct 16, 1892 in Goodfarm Twp., Grundy Co., IL.
John Schrotberger died on Feb 19, 1898 in Goodfarm Twp., Grundy Co., IL. | |
| Barbara Krug | Barbara Krug was born on December 29, 1824 in
Bavaria (Beyerne), Germany. She immigrated to America in 1848. Barbara married
Michael Sorg about 1850, I assume in IL although I haven't found them on
the Illinois state marriage index at this time. Michael is listed in the household
John & Barbara (Sorg) Haag on the 1850 census of Oswego, Kendall Co., IL,
but I have not found Barbara in 1850 at this time. Michael & Barbara had 12
children. The family is listed on the 1860, 1870, 1880 & 1900 censuses of
Oswego, Kendall Co., IL. On the 1900 census it states that Michael immigrated
in 1847, Barbara immigrated in 1848, that they had been married 50 years, and
that Barbara had 12 births with 7 children surviving at that time. Michael Sorg
died on November 27, 1903 and Barbara Krug Sorg died on January 19, 1905 in
Oswego, Kendall Co., IL. She is buried in the Oswego Prairie Evangelical Cemetery,

(Beyerne), Germany. Catherine married George J. Bower on August 29,
1852 in Kendall Co., IL and they had 9 children. On the Illinois state Marriage
Index the last name is spelled Bauer, but on all census records I have found it
is spelled Bower or Bowers. The family is listed on the 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900
& 1910 censuses of Oswego, Kendall, IL. The 1900 census states that they had
been married 48 years, had 1 child with 1 surviving, and that they were both born
in Germany, with George immigrating in 1850 & Catherine immigrating in 1852.
The 1910 census states that they have been married 57 years, had 9 births with
7 surviving children, and that they were both born in Germany but does not give
the date of immigration. Catherine Krug Bower died on November 13, 1912 in

IL although I have not found them on the Illinois state marriage index. They had
8 children. I have not found the family on the 1860 census, but they are listed
on the 1870 census of Goodfarm Twp., Grundy Co., IL. They moved from Illinois
to Nebraska sometime between 1870 to 1880, and are listed on the 1880 & 1885
