John
Leamer was born on April 17, 1784 in PA. He was the son of Henry
Leamer & Christina Gordon
Elizabeth Kimmel was born between 1784 to
1794. She is probably from Somerset Co., PA, where there were several Kimmel families
who had daughters named Elizabeth. She is possibly the sister of Samuel Kimmel.
This last name for her is not confirmed, but a John Leamer was one of the administrators
in an estate for Samuel Kimmel of Somerset Co., PA in 1803, and in 1800 there
was a Samuel Kimmel in Somerset Co., PA who was married and age 16-26. An online
tree lists Elizabeth's last name as Kuemil, but I have not found any families
with that last name at this time.
THE FAMILY OF JOHN LEAMER & ELIZABETH KIMMEL
| John Leamer & Elizabeth Kimmel | John Leamer & Elizabeth
Kimmel were married about 1804 in PA and they had at least 8 children, born between
1805 to 1820. The family is listed on the 1810 census of Franks, Huntingdon
Co., PA. There is a land record for John Lemer in Huntingdon Co., PA in 1814 for
120 acres. John Leamer died on January 10, 1820. At the time of his death
he was 35 years old, and he left Elizabeth with 8 children under the age of 14.
I have not found Elizabeth and the children on the 1820 census at this time. In
1836 when John's father Henry died, his will named 8 children for John as being
heirs to his portion of Henry's estate. Elizabeth Kimmel died sometime after
1820, but I don't know when or where. It is possible that she remarried after
John's death. I have not found Elizabeth on any census records after 1810. Of
their 3 sons, Henry settled in Cambria Co., PA, William settled in Cambria &
later Clearfield Co. PA, and Jacob moved with his family to Benton Co., Iowa.
Of their daughters, Jane married in 1825 in Centre Co., Pennsylvania, and died
in 1846 in Marion Co., Ohio, Catherine married and died before 1837 in Huntingdon,
Pennsylvania, and I don't know what happened to Susanna or Charlotte. Notes for John Leamer |
The Children of John Jacob Leamer & Elizabeth Kimmel:
| Henry Lamer | Henry Lamer was born about 1805 in Huntingdon Co.,
PA. There is a male the right age to be Henry, age 5, in the household of
J. Leamer on the 1810 Franks, Huntingdon Co., PA. Henry's father died on January
10, 1820, when Henry was about age 14. I have not found Henry's mother and the
children on the 1820 census at this time. Henry married Catherine Ketner/Kitner
about 1829 and they had at least 8 children. I have not found them on the
1830 census at this time, but their oldest known child was born about 1830 in
Pennsylvania. In 1836 Henry was listed as an heir in the will of his grandfather
Henry Leamer because he was a child of John Leamer, deceased. Henry & Catherine
and their family are listed on the 1840, 1850, 1860 & 1870 censuses of Susquehanna,
Cambria Co., PA. In 1870, five of their children are still in Susquehanna, Cambria
Co., PA, and two had moved to Green, Indiana Co., PA. Henry Lamer died sometime
between 1870-1880, probably in Susquehanna, Cambria, Pennsylvania. There is a
Catherine Leamer, widowed, who is the right age living with granddaughter Sarah
Coble, age 14 on the 1880 census of Susquehanna Co., PA who is probably her, although
I don't have record of any of their daughters marrying a Coble. In 1880, 5 of
the married children are in Green, Indiana Co., PA, one is in Susquehanna, PA
and I have not located the other two. Online trees list Catherine as living until
April 04, 1885. Children of Henry Lamer & Catherine Ketner are Catherine (1830),
Margaret (1832), Susannah (1834), John (1837), Samuel (1840), Maria (1843), Julia
Ann (1846) and Rebecca (1847). Notes for Henry Lamer
| Jane Leamer | Jane Leamer was born about January 17, 1807 in Huntingdon
Co., PA. There is not a female under age 10 in the household of J. Leamer
on the 1810 census of Franks, Huntingdon Co., PA, so either it is census error
or it is possible that I have the wrong birth year for Jane. Jane's father died
on January 10, 1820, when Jane was about age 13. Jane married Jacob Gast
in 1825 in Centre Co., Pennsylvania, and they had at least 2 children. The family
is listed on the 1830 census of Frankstown, Huntingdon, PA. In 1836 Jane was listed
as an heir in the will of her grandfather Henry Leamer because she was a child
of John Leamer, deceased. Jane Leamer died on January 18, 1846 in Prospect,
Marion, Ohio. She is buried in Prospect Cemetery, Prospect, Marion, Ohio.
I have not found Jacob on the 1850 census, but he & the children were living
in Van Buren Co., Iowa by 1856. Children of Jane Leamer & Jacob Gast are:
Elizabeth Catherine (1831), Mary (1834), Delila (1839), Jacob (1844) and Joseph
D (1846). Notes for Jane Leamer Gast
| William Leamer | William Leamer was born on November 2, 1807 in Huntingdon
Co., PA. There is a male the right age to be William, age 2, in the household
of J. Leamer on the 1810 Franks, Huntingdon Co., PA. William's father died on
January 10, 1820, when William was about age 13, and I have not found William's
mother or the children on the 1820 census at this time. William married Mary
Anna Learn about 1824, and they had 9 children. I have not found them in 1830
at this time. In 1836 William was listed as an heir in the will of his grandfather
Henry Leamer because he was a child of John Leamer, deceased. There is a William
Lehmer listed on the 1840 census of Green, Indiana Co., PA near several Larn families
that I think it the right William. (The children are the right ages, but the ages
for William & Mary are not right.) The family is listed on the 1850 &
1860 censuses of Susquehanna, Cambria Co., PA. I have not found the family on
the 1870 census at this time. William & Mary are both listed at age 71 on
the 1880 census of Burnside, Clearfield Co., PA, living next to the household
of married son Jonas. William Leamer died on January 26, 1883, probably in
Clearfileld Co., PA. Mary Anna died on January 27, 1886. Children of William
Leamer & Mary Anna Learn are Catherine (1825), John William (1832), Sarah
Jane (1835), George (1838), Margaret (1840), Henry (1843), Elizabeth (1845), Jonas
(1848) and James Clay (1849). Notes for William Leamer
| Jacob Leamer | Jacob Leamer was born on May 28, 1810 in Huntingdon

to Iowa in 1850, and they are listed on the 1850 & 1852 censuses of District
#11, Benton Co., IA. Jacob Leamer died January 4, 1860 in Benton Co., IA.
Rebecca is listed on the 1860, 1870, 1880, 1895 & 1900 censuses of Eden Twp,
Benton Co., IA. She is living with her married daughter Delilah Thomas in 1870,
with her married son David in 1880, and with her married daughter Elizabeth Dilling
in 1895 & 1900. In 1900 she is listed as having 13 births with 8 surviving
children at that time. Rebecca Stephens Leamer died on November 11, 1903 in
Benton Co., IA. Jacob & Rebecca are both buried in the Prairie United
Brethren Cemetery, Sec. 35, Taylor Township, Benton County, Iowa. Notes for Jacob Leamer Notes for Rebecca Stephens Leamer Xeroxed photo collage of 8 adult children of Jacob & Rebecca Stephens Leamer ca. 1903

Catherine's father died on January 10, 1820, when Catherine was about age 8, and I have not found her mother or the children on the 1820 census at this time. When her grandfather Henry Leamer wrote his will on January 6, 1828, Catherine was listed as an heir because she was a child of John Leamer, deceased. Catherine married Daniel Flora. When Henry Leamer died and his will was probated on March 21, 1836, Catherine was listed as being deceased, and her children (twins, age 4) inherited her share. Catherine Leamer Flora died between 1832-1836, probably in Pennsylvania but that is not for sure.
| Margaret Leamer | Margaret Leamer was born about 1814 in Huntingdon Co., PA. Her father died on January 10, 1820, when Margaret was about age 5, and I have not found her mother or the children on the 1820 census at this time. In 1828 Margaret was listed as an heir in the will of her grandfather Henry Leamer because she was a child of John Leamer, deceased. I assume Margaret married, but do not have any further information about her. I would appreciate any clues as to if and who she married, any children she may have had, and where she died.
