The children of Henry Leamer & Christina Gordon

John LeamerJohn Leamer was born on April 17, 1784 in PA. There is a male the right age group to be John, age 6, in the household of Henry Leamer on the 1790 census of York Co., PA. The family moved from York Co. to Huntingdon Co. PA in 1797 when John was age 13. There is a male the right age group to be John, age 16, in the household of Henry Lemer on the 1800 census of Frankstown, Huntingdon Co., PA. John married Elizabeth Kimmel about 1804 in PA and they had at least 8 children, born between 1805 to 1820. The family is listed on the 1810 census of Franks, Huntingdon Co., PA. There is a land record for John Lemer in Huntingdon Co., PA in 1814 for 120 acres. John Leamer died on January 10, 1820. At the time of his death he was 35 years old, and he left Elizabeth with 8 children. I have not found Elizabeth and the children on the 1820 census at this time. In the Orphan's Court held in Huntingdon County in 1824, Henry Leamer Sr and Henry Leamer Jr petitioned the court that John had died intestate leaving 8 children (named) that were all under age 21. They also stated that the personal estate John left was insufficient to pay his debts, and that they wished to be granted an order to sell a tract of land John owed to pay his debts and provide for education and maintenance of his children. In 1836 when John's father Henry died, his will named 8 children for John as being heirs to his portion of Henry's estate. Elizabeth Kimmel died sometime after 1820, but I don't know when or where. It is possible that she remarried after John's death. I have not found Elizabeth or any of their daughters on any census records after 1810. Of their 3 sons, Henry settled in Cambria Co., PA, William settled in Cambria & later Clearfield Co. PA, and Jacob moved with his family to Benton Co., Iowa. Of their daughters, Jane died in Marion Co., Ohio and her husband later moved to Van Buren, Iowa, Catherine died in Huntingdon Co. Pennsylvania, Margaret died in Van Buren, Iowa, and I don't know what happened to Charlotte or Susanna. John was the first burial in the Geeseytown Cemetery, Frankstown, Blair, Pennsylvania. His tombstone was misidentified as J.L. Hier on the 1939 cemetery survey and also in the BCGS list. Birthdate of April 17 (no longer legible) was viewed in 1985, but mistaken for the death date. "J.L." still readable on top as well as the word "Hier" (for Heir ruhet - here lies). "He" also visible, probably originally read 'son of Henry'. Thanks to Kathy Weigel and www.findagrave.com for this photo and the tombstone information.
