Hi Kari,
I hope all of
the information below is clear, helpful and not too confusing...
Jane
Brethouwer (daughter of Evart and Helena) b. Sept. 9, 1871 at Holland, Lancaster
Co., NE and died Jan. 7, 1917 at Firth NE and is buried at the Firth Cemetery.
She married Martin Vermaas on the 18th of March 1888 at the Lancaster County Courthouse.
I do have a copy of the Marriage Certificate if you would like one. Martin Vermaas
was b. Sept. 9, 1867 at Cedar Grove, Sheboygan Co., WI, d. Feb. 9, 1944 at Lincoln,
NE, buried at Firth. He was a farmer, salesman and minister.
They had
13 children and three of them died in infancy but for the remaining 10, there
are descendants. After Jane died, Martin married again on Sept. 9, 1917 to Ida
(Olson) Van De Wege (widow of John who was the son of Martinus VanDeWege II who
was my Great Grandfather and was married to Jozina Vermaas), Ida died in Nov.
1918, then he married Tony Brethouwer's (brother to Jane) widow Elizabeth (Limbeck)
Brethouwer (this marriage is from a genealogy of the Vermaas Family but differs
from the VanDeWege Family). All of the children were from Jane and Martin. I do
have a record of the descendants if you would like me to mail it to you, I can
run a copy for you.
I have not done any research on this line for a long
time and cannot remember if there were other Tony Brethouwers in Nebr. because
I have Tony Brethouwer (son of Evart & Helena) b. April 7, 1869 at Holland
NE, being married to Josephine Visco on ______, ____, 1888 and he died April 8,
1915. Do you have a marriage record for Tony Brethouwer? I have not looked for
it.
My pedigree charts show Tony, Jane and Christopher all being born
in Nebraska. My Aunt who is now 94 started all of this 50 years ago and her children
were not interested so she gave me all of her charts about 25+ years ago and I
didn't have time to do anything with them until about 8 years ago after my children
were grown and out of the house. I still don't have a great deal of time to spend
on it as I still work full time and my mother is 97 and has resided at the Firth
Nursing Home for over two years now. Great Aunt Jennie (VanDeWege) Te Selle helped
with information for the VanDeWege and Vermaas genealogy many years ago. I must
say with 4 Martin(is)(us) VanDeWeges and all descendants of the first has been
a challenge and a nightmare. Then there are all the Janna, Jane and Jennies in
all of the families connected!
I do not have any photos of the Evart &
Helena Brethouwer family but wish I did.
Happy Mother's Day! We spent
the day at Firth.
Marlene
